Quite a large part of the town of Whitehaven came under the Parish of St. Bees in 1846, and given the occupation mariner and or miner, it is maybe more than likely they were in Whitehaven and not the small town of St. Bees as we know it today.
Which church were they married at? If it is St. James, Holy Trinity or St. Nicholas, then they are in Whitehaven.  ;)

The Preston Quarter is south of the town heading towards St Bees. I'm pretty sure Harras Moor doesn't come under the Preston Quarter.

Are there any other addresses/place names mentioned on that census that might help in the search? Even looking at the pages before and after can sometimes give you some clues.

I'll have a glance over the couple of old maps I have and see is anything looks possible.  :)

As an afterthought, what was the name of your ancestor? might help with the trawl through the directories  ::)
