Thanks Aulus, that is the Ellen Pitty.  There is no mention of her father in the marriage record so I am assuming she was over 21 at that time.  Based on census data, she seems to have been born in either 1789 or 1790.

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / PITTY Family - Chishill, Essex/Ashwell, Herts

I am trying to find information about the ancestry of my 3 great grandmother, Ellen (or possibly Eleanor) Pitty.  According to census data, she was born in Chishill, Essex but I know she was married in Ashwell, Herts, to where her family seems to have moved.  I think her father's name was George and that she had two brothers, George and James.  Can anyone shed any light on this family for me?  I have the details of her marriage and offspring but would really like to know about her parents, siblings, etc.  Any information would be very welcome.

Many thanks in advance  :)

Thanks Marlene.  The only email address I have been able to find was upwoodlhg@btinternet.com and that bounces immediately  :'(  This one was from a page that doesn't seem to have been updated since 2003.  Or was it a different address you found?  One mustn't give up looking  :)

Thanks Ian.

I don't know of any relationship between James and Thomas Setchell but it would seem possible that they are father and son.

My investigations of the Clark(e)s has stalled at Thomas Clark(e) (my 3 great grandfather) and I was hoping that finding out about Sarah might give me a lead into knowing more about my direct ancestors.  Ho hum!

Thanks David.  Since I live in Vancouver, visiting the Huntingdon Records Office is a bit beyond my reach at the moment.  I do appreciate the information though.  If I can find out who the witnesses were then that certainly might help, particularly as Sarah might have been under age when she married.

Huntingdonshire / Setchell-Clark(e) Marriage, Upwood

A relative of mine, Elizabeth Clark(e), married a Thomas Setchell in 1865 in Upwood, Hunts.  I have now heard that another Setchell/Clark(e) marriage happened earlier and I am trying to work out if the Clark(e) involved is another relative.  From what I have heard, this second marriage was in 1829 in Upwood between James Setchell b1798 Warboys, Hunts (farmer of 150 acres) and Sarah Clark b1811 Upwood, Hunts

Can anyone provide any clues as to Sarah's family?  Many thanks in advance.

Happy Holidays to one and all  :)

Thanks, Suffolk*Sue, for both your replies.

Can anyone tell me more about Elizabeth and Sophia Steel?  Were they sisters or related in another way?

One can never find out too much about one's family, right?   ;)
