Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: HOOD Bonny (male) Born 1873 Mile End
« on: Monday 20 August 07 15:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Yes we do already have this marriage certificate and the father's name entered is Frederick Bonnyhood (Senior) who does not exist anywhere!  My parents have been trying for many years to trace their tree - with a name like Bonnyhood you would think it was easy! Lol

On Bonny's birth certificate the fathers name appears as Michael Hood but we could find no record of a death for him (prior to 1877 when his wife remarried).  Now it has kindly been pointed out that in 1871 his name appears as Frederick Wood (Hood) we have been able to locate a possible death certificate for him.  When this arrives it will hopefully give us the name of informant as Elizabeth Hannah Hood and therefore confirm that his father was born and married as Michael and died Frederick! LOL.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Jane

It certainly seems like this could be them - Alice & Elizabeths age & location are correct.  Frederick (father) ties in with why 'Bonny' changing his name to Frederick, although we have the father as Michael Hood on Bonny's birth certificate & the marriage certificate to Elizabeth Hannah Ambrose.  I guess perhaps he was Michael Frederick Hood or visa versa. I also have a death for Thomas in 1870, but will look into this again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to look.  I will now investigate further.

I only discovered this website a couple of days ago, but would like to say how fantastic I think it is!

Thanks again
Lisa

Thank you both for your reply.

Yes 'Bonny's' mother Elizabeth Ambrose married Michael Hood in 1863 later remarried in 1877 a Thomas Yates (& had 3 more children:Thomas, George & Annie)and following that in 1893 married Frederick G Thornton!

I don't think we had any luck tracing them on the 1871 census.  But did manage to find 'Bonnys' father Michael Hood on the 1861 census as a RM on HMS Ceasar.  Also on the same ship is a Robert Ambrose, who we assume is Elizabeth Ambrose's father.

Least if no-one can find a marriage or a death for a Bonny Hood, it seems like we are on the right track linking him to Frederick Bonnyhood, its just a shame we cant really prove it!

Thanks again

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / HOOD Bonny (male) Born 1873 Mile End
« on: Sunday 19 August 07 12:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone researching HOODS from Mile End/West Ham area had anything on
Bonny Hood born 1873 in Mile End?  He was one of 4 children (Alice born 1866 Thomas Bonny born 1869 -died 1870- & Robert born 1875)

On entering the army he appears to have changed his name to Frederick Bonnyhood and married under that name. Although he appears on the 1901 census as Frederick Bonnyhood his wife Ellen (nee Sipple) appears with their first child as Ellen Hood!  ???

My grandmother used to suggest that our surname was 'made up' and this appears to be correct.  But if anyone has any further information on Bonny Hood (or any of his siblings) that may contradict this, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks
Lisa

Hi Fred

Thanks for the photo, I will certainly print it off and show it to Alf when I next see him.

Alf's boxing records can be found at the link below if you are interested.

Also, I attach a picture taken from the video cover of one of the films he appeared in (the Square Ring)
- Alf is the one on the left!

Hi F.H.

I know an Alf Heins from the West Ham area, who was a professional boxer and appeared in a couple of films under the name Alf Hines.  I believe this maybe your Dads cousin?  Does that seem correct?

Sorry this is my first posting on this site.
