Thanks Judith & Merlin......so good of you to spend time on this.

Andrew would not have been Catholic...so I don't think this is him.

If I make any progress myself I will let you know here on the forum.

Cando and Judith

The date he died was 10 May 1853.

And now I know why he probably left Scotland - thank you !

Thank you Judith.

The headstone only has his date of death and that he died in Australia.

Still, I have more info than I had this morning which is great.  Perhaps something will turn up - I'll keep looking.  He's a distant relative but, I'd still like to know how he died.

Many thanks for this info re his arrival in Melbourne.  I didnt expect to get all this help !

I've searched the link given for BMD's in Victoria but not found anything for his death.  Maybe he moved on?

Poor lad was only there just over a year when he died....very sad.

Many thanks Jim for all the helpful information which I will follow up.

Andrew was born abt 1831 in Hamilton Lanarkshire to James Renwick and Margaret Gage.

1851 he was living in Glasgow with his parents and siblings.  So he must have made his way to Australia between 1851 and 1853.  I know this because his parents have his death inscripted on a Headstone at the family grave in Hamilton Old Parish Church, Lanarkshire.
