Technical Help / Re: broadband
« on: Thursday 16 August 07 17:21 BST (UK)  »
I would like to disagree there,

I may sound like the minority but I have had no problems with talk talk since I joined them over a year ago.

The only issue I have had with them was my bb connection.  I was advised that it would be active around the middle of aug 06, but it wasnt, so I phone ofcom who gave me the complaints number.  I spoke to someone that day, who advised me that there had been no order, and promised to have it on within 7 days.
Sure enough in 4 days my bb was active, and I didn't have to pay the activation fee.

And I haven't had a problem since.

Today I am able to say I know exactly how you feel.

I went to my great-grandparents grave.

They are buried about 30 minutes walk away from my house and I haven't been to see them for years and years.  I think I may have been a baby whe my parents took me!

We bought some flowers and headed off to find the grave.  I assumed their grave was going to be like half of them, unkempt and overgrown, and the inscription barely legible, or maybe no headstone.
But we looked and looked and then they appeared.

In loving memory of
Edward Evans
died 8th January 1940 aged 46
and
Maud
died 12th December 1985 aged 92
and also of their daughter
GRACE
died in infancy
Together and resting in peace.

I burst into tears, two of the people I've been talking about for months, one who's proving very elusive and the other I feel like I've known forever. and grown up with her family, their names were in front of me.  It was incredible.  My mum took my son away for me to have a few 'quiet moments'.

The funniest thing though, was my 2 year old trying to put flowers on the graves next to them!

That's great thank you very much.

I'm really struggling with this part of the family, most has been really easy to find, but this has stumped me well and truly!

Thank you so much for your help!

I tried to include as much information as I can, but sometimes I forget things.  And then I get reminded and think oh $h!@ I should have included that.

I have been told that Edward was born in West Wales, but I have a hunch that he was born somewhere close to Monmouthshire.

Edward and Maude's children were
Teddy (Ted)
Stanley
Phylis
Ivor (my grandfather - b 31/03/1919 d 10/92
(stillborn daughter Grace(Gracie))

They aren't in the correct order but I know Teddy is the oldest (somewhere around 90 now) but lives up north somewhere.

Hi,

I was wondering whether anybody here could help me at all!

I'm trying to find out where my my great grandfather was born, and his mother's name!

The man I am looking for is Edward EVANS.

He was born c.1893

He was in the Monmouthshire Regiment.  He fought at the Somme in 1916.
His army number was 1365 and he was a private.

My father believes he was in the Territorial Army previous to WWI.

He married Maude BRUCE in Bedfordshire on 30 October 1915.

And he died in January 1940.
His entry in the Fleur-de-Lys burial register was as follows.

Edward Evans - 39 Edward Street, Pengam - January 13th 1940 - 46 - Rev Morgan Lewis, Baptist.

Hope somebody can help.
Thanks in advance.
Beth

Yes they are.  It makes it even harder that I have no idea where Edward Evans my g grandfather was born.  So I am seriously clutching at straws on that one!

Thanks a lot Beth86.

I think its probably a query for the archivists rather than an actual look-up.

I am looking for the baptism of George Francis, born around 1805 in Llanfrechfa. He doesn't appear in LLanfrechfa baptisms. The family may have become non-conformists, most likely baptists, as George's daughter was married in a Baptist church.

I haven't been able to trace any records for Baptist churches in the Llanfrechfa area. Do Gwent Archives have any, or know where they might be found? Although baptists don't practice infant baptism they do keep records of births to members of their congregations - birth/dedication records. (At least my Yorkshire ones do)

Thanks again for your kind offer - I'm very grateful.

Anne

Hi, I was unable to actually look for George Francis' birth, but I know they do have Baptist records for the entire of Monmouthshire.
I will be going back again next week, so I will put George's name at the top of my list to search for.

I drew many blanks myself today.  Until I discovered a record of my g grandfathers burial, andd discovered that he had a baptist burial.  So next week I will be concentrating on the baptist records.

Sorry I couldn't provide you with anymore answers today, but I will take a look next week!
