The caskies entered into my "Family" way back in 1860.

Caskie is spelled many different ways.

Renfrewshire / Deaths of William Millar & Agnes Millar nee Williamson
« on: Saturday 02 July 16 17:18 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the deaths of  William & Agnes Millar. I have the following info.

Agnes Williamson age 20 married William Millar age 20 on the 31st Dec 1867 in Lochwinnoch (registered 1868).
According to the Kilbirnie 1861 census she and her Parents were born in Ireland and her siblings, Jane, Robert, John & Margaret were born in Kilbirnie.
The Parents of Agnes were Robert Williamson & Elizabeth Carmichael. Williams were Robert Millar & Margaret Millar nee Reid, (though I am sure? her full name was Margaret Reid Cunningham).
Agnes & William on the 1871 census were living in Glasgow along with their 2 children, Robert age 2 & Christina Jamieson age 3 months. Robert died in May 1871 age 2 yrs 6 months & Christina died in July 1871 age 6 Months.
I have Williams Parents, Robert & Margaret with their children living in Glasgow in the 1861 census less William as he is in Lochwinnoch 1861 census age 13 living with his Grandmother Christina Jamieson.
The names are very common in the area but I am sure what I have found so far is correct, but would like to find the deaths of William & Agnes which would help me complete this part of my research.
Post Modified
There is no trace of William & Agnes after the death of daughter Christina in July 1871.
This post is the result of years of searching for the first marriage of my great grandfather b 1848 d 1898 Pensacola. He was a widower when he remarried in Jan 1877. Legend says that his 1st wife was Mary McGhie, but I can find no trace of either a marriage or a death of Mary Between 1864 & 1876. to confuse matters his son James b 1889 by the 2nd marriage has the correct Mothers name ( McKenzie) on his b cert, but on his marriage cert in 1928 he puts his Mother as Mary McGhie. After all this research I found all the info as on my post and coming to the possibilities that he may have abandoned his 1st wife and ran away to sea.

Help would be appreciated

Hi Mrs K

I was at the Hub and had a look at your request.
Andrew died December 2nd 2014 aged 78 in the Victoria Infirmary Glasgow.
His son registered the death.
I had a look for him in the phone book but there was no listing for him at the address.

HI,
Dumfries library held them and transferred them to Edinburgh. Dumfries rechecked their files and said they are definitely in Edinburgh. I was given the code numbers to ask for but unfortunately I have lost them in my filing system. I hope to be able to return to Edinburgh soon to have a look at the file for John Hamilton d 14 Feb 1887 age 82. Widower of Eliza Jane Evans formerly Jane Smith.

World War One / Re: Killed in Action. Found in 1937
« on: Wednesday 10 December 14 19:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Malky,

My James Russells parents were, William Russell & Margaret Coffey, both dead by 1919.
His brother William married a widow Mary Egen  (maiden name Mary Burgess Russell). Her parents were William Russell & Mary Burgess.

No wonder I get confused.

Cheers

World War One / Re: Killed in Action. Found in 1937

Hi All,

After years of searching I still have not found "my" James Russell. The closest match S/22289 turned out not to be him. I found a memorial plaque on his families headstone in the Kirk O Shotts Cemetery and after researching the names on it, I found that there was onto the wrong James Russell.
Vast numbers of WW1 dead were being discovered in the aftermath of the war and some were identified and next of kin notified. I have been searching the Glasgow Evening Citizen without success but was surprised to find in the Ottawa Evening Citizen articles re the finding of graves, giving the numbers found, and identified in particular for the years 1936/37. There are many reports in various newspapers regarding these matters ,the Reading Eagle to name another. I have phoned the CWGC re this but they say they have no knowledge of these findings.
But the search goes on.
Sorry I have not kept up to-date with my findings, I seem to have difficulty in find my posts.
Thanks to all
