Ireland / Re: James Blair (Born 1821 Ireland)
« on: Monday 14 October 24 09:54 BST (UK)  »
Thank you everyone for all your help, started this research a few years ago and put it to one side but decided I will give it another try to find the area in Ireland the family were from.

This is the correct Sarah and William in the 1851 census. I will look into the birth certificates later.

I've since got Sarah Morrison (nee Blair) death certificate and she died in 1865, moved to Duke Street, Carlisle aged 46 present at the death was a William Morrison as yet still need to work out whether that was son or husband.

My direct descendant is James Blair who married Mary Gillion in 1841 and they are living in Carlisle on the 1851 census. James goes on to marry again after Mary dies (i have Mary's death certificate). My g grandmother was Nancy their (second Nancy) who married a Mitchellhill and moved to Workington.

Thanks Elwyn, I will have a look at this.  I have tested my dna and we seem to all be in the same boat, we can't get any further back than John and Sarah. I will keep looking hopefully I will have a breakthrough.

Maybe I need to try and trace Margaret as I have traced both Sarah's and James, Hugh is a mystery as I can't find him, so I need to look into deaths, he doesn't seem to still be in the local area

I was hoping there maybe a 1831 census in Ireland

Ireland / James Blair (Born 1821 Ireland)
« on: Sunday 13 October 24 19:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I've hit a brick wall with my gg grandparents. James Blair was born in Ireland approx 1821, his parents are John Blair and Sarah. I can find them on 1841 Census at Backhouse Walk, Carlisle, Cumberland England

Sarah Blair         Unknown   Female   50    Ireland
Sarah Blair         Unknown   Female   20    Ireland
James Blair        Unknown   Male      20    Ireland
Margaret Blair    Unknown   Female   15    Ireland
Hugh Blair          Unknown   Male       12   Ireland
William Morrison  Unknown  Male         2   Cumberland

Does anyone know where in Ireland they may have come from, they must have come to England between 1829 and 1838.

I believe  Sarah Blair (20) is the mother of William (still need to check his birth record). Sarah marries a Morrison in the same year.

Sarah (50) dies in Backhouse walk Carlisle in June 1847 says she is the widower of John and her son James was in attendance.

I have searched back through the Ireland records but can't seem to find this family anywhere in Ireland.  Any help or an idea of where I can look next would be appreciated.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: 1861/1871 Census Lookup Westmorland - AIREY
« on: Tuesday 04 January 22 11:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi MissLucky,

I've just logged on - put the family history down for a number of years but picked backup again now.

I'm also from Thomas, Agnes marriage, then Thomas, Sarah (Metcalfe) marriage and then Alice (who was my Grandmother)

I have some information if you need any. It would be nice to be in touch.

Catherine

Hi,

I have been to Parkside Road Cemetery today and found the grave of your ancestors.  The pictures are not that good, but I wrote down what was written on the gravestone.  If you leave your email address (*) I will send the pictures direct to you.

Hello Kaye,

Thanks for getting in touch.  I have been through quite alot of the 1841 Census, (Skelsmergh, Patton, Selside, Kentmere, Lupton and most of Kirkby Lonsdale) and have not come across them.  My John Airey was married to Jane Wilkinson from Killington Hall.  In 1841 there would have been John Airey about 35 years old, Jane  his wife, Jane his daughter who was about 7 years old,  and Thomas his son who is my G.G. Grandfather and he would be 2 years old.  Thomas was born in Lupton and their next child born in 1843 was born at Lupton Fell.  I have looked through the Lupton Census but have not found them.  John Airey was born at Skelsmergh so I though maybe I would find him on that Census but I have had no look there.  In 1851 they were living in Skelsmergh and his wife Jane had died.

If I find your Airey family whilst I am looking through the records I will let you know.  I've looked through my notes and I don't seem to have come across them yet.

Thank you

Catherine.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks alot  for having a look.  I actually live in Kendal but have not had a chance to go to the Library or the Records Office for ages.  If you give me some more information, the next time I get into the Records Office (which hopefully will be soon) I will look for more information on the Airey's in and around Kendal and I will let you know what I find.

Martha Airey is not a name I have come across.  My family of Airey's consists of Thomas and John's.

Thanks again,

Catherine
