Hi Sue

Just browsing and the name Gardam caught my eye. I have a photo of my husbands great grandfather  Jefferson Taylor with the Gardams picture would have been taken in or around Gippsland.  Let me know if you would like a copy.

Armed Forces / Re: How to find marriage cert for Armed Forces
« on: Wednesday 12 May 10 07:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi Ken

Thankyou for your advice, I have all his papers including the muster, no children were noted. I have checked the GRO/ Consu Marriages, Chaplain Returns and also the Ionian to no avail, I did get a regimental birth for his son who was born in Malta in October 1868 however not much is on the birth cert no maiden name and also that the mother was Elizabeth Brown. On their sons death cert it states mother as being Anne Elizabeth Cullen.

I did write to the St Vittriosa Cathedral in Malta and they went through the Baptism and found it, but it again said Charles Brown father, Mother Elizabeth Brown. So which name do I go for Annie or Elizabeth)? makes it very confusing.

You were right in that the 52nd regiment moved to Dublin in November 1866, I did check Englands marriage and still have come up with nothing.

Do you know why this marriage would not have been registered in England?

Thankyou for all your help

Kindest regards
Joanne

Armed Forces / How to find marriage cert for Armed Forces
« on: Monday 10 May 10 09:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi

my ggg grandfather 265 Private Charles Brown 52nd Regiment of foot was stationed in Ireland, I have his service records and the entry on the marriage roll in the Regimental Musters, the regiment went from being in Dublin in 1867 to Limerick in 1868 However on the musters roll the date is 11 June 1867 married to Anne or Annie.

Where do I go to get a marriage certificate to give me more information. This is so frustrating and so far has cost me a fortune. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kirkcudbrightshire / Census Lookup for Gordon/Charters/Taylor
« on: Sunday 06 November 05 11:25 GMT (UK)  »
HI

Looking for the parents of Thomas Gordon and also his wife Isabella Charters they were married in 1826, Blamaghie, kirkudbright, I know of one daughter Jessie Gordon who married John Garside Taylor in 1850 in Blamaghie, I know that Jessie and John Taylor left Scotland for Liverpool, they had a son John George Taylor in 1854 John the father died not long after and Jessie left with her infant son aboard the 'Black Eagle'
bound for Australia.

I would love to be able to find any information on any of these family members within Scotland. Possibly census lookups?

Many Thanks

Hi

Wondering if sks would be able to help me as the Lancanshire BM's start at 1837 and I am looking for the marriage of John Howell to a Sarah Ann ?[ need to find out her maiden name] in approximately 1835/36, I would take a guess that they were married in the same church as their children were christened that being Cathedral, Manchester. Any assistance would be greatfully accepted.

thanks

Hi Kris

Hi Sandie

I think you may have the right family on the 1851 census that you checked. Sarah aged 34 in Cheshire wife of John, from searching further if I have the right one sarah died in 1857 in Ipswich.
I did find on the 1881 census a John born Salford Lancs married to a Urania, not sure of her maiden name or when they may have married. but it does state that he was an Engine driver which is correct for my John Howell.
Is there any way that I could find out Sarah's maiden name.

Thanks
Jo
