Hello Sovvolf,

I would love to know more about your Barnsley family, I have found out more about my family since I last visited here so maybe we can find out if we are related.

Hello Sovvolf,

Apologies for not replying, a very nice Gomersall lady who I believe I am not allowed to name kindly prepared my family tree for me so I did not return to Rootschat till now. The tree goes back to 1760 in Barnsley. It would be interesting if we were indeed related.

Cheers,
Steve.

Hello, can you help me? I have tried a couple of posts trying to find anyone who might know anything about my family (Gomersall) which originated in Barnsley. I have had no responses and wondered if I was doing something wrong.

Hi Kazza,

I tried posting a request to see if anyone knew of any Gomersall from Barnsley, but to no avail, do you know any 'rootschatters' that might be able to help?

Family History Beginners Board / GOMERSALL from Barnsley
« on: Friday 27 February 09 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
I would be greatful if anyone might know any Gomersall from Barnsley. I believe I am the last of the line, but would like to be wrong. My gr. gr. gr. grandfather was William, born c.1790 and between 1814 and 1826 had 6 sons; John, William, Jabez, EDWIN and Moses and Aaron.

My gr. gr. grandfather Edwin had 2 sons; Tom Harold in 1853 and Malcolm William in 1855. My great grandfather Tom had one surviving son William and his son Eric had no brothers, which leaves me. I have tried to find any living relatives without success, so if anyone can help you would make a happy man very old!

Is it possible that I have any relations emanating from Barnsley, I cannot trace anybody still alive. My great grandfather was Thomas who was born around 1855 in Barnsley and had a brother called Malcolm born about 2 years later. I believe Malcolm died around 1880 in Barnsley, whereas Thomas (or Tom) moved to Blackpool about 1870 and died there in 1900. My grandfather William, the only surviving son  (b. c1886) had only one son Eric, my father (born 1922) and I am the only child.
Strangely, I have a postcard addressed to my grandfather in 1903 from Aunt and uncle E and M Gomersall in Barnsley. I have no idea who these people can be as there is no evidence of the existence of any other relatives in Barnsley at that time.
I would be extremely grateful for any help.
Thanks,

Stepen Gomersall, Blackpool.
