London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1861 census please, BARNARD
« on: Saturday 10 September 11 14:20 BST (UK)  »
regarding Edward Barnard, the Agent for the Crown Colonies.
Edward was the son of Edward Barnard, Rector of Alverstoke, 30 Sep 1763 - 23 Oct 1840 and Mary Ann Beadon, c 1764 - 12 Oct 1850. They married 22 Jul 1784 St James Westminster. His father was indeed the Edward Barnard who died in 1781. He was 1754 Headmaster of Eton, 1760 Canon of Windsor, Chaplain to King George III, 1765 Provost of Eton. http://www.archive.org/stream/memoirsofcelebra02jessiala/memoirsofcelebra02jessiala_djvu.txt

Mary Ann Beadon was the daughter of Mary Ann Watson and Edwards Beadon, Rector of North Stoneham, Hampshire, and also Chaplain to King George III in 1760. Mary Ann Watson was the daughter of Sir William Watson the scientist. 1715 - 1787.

Lots of information on the Beadon and Barnard families, so let me know exactly what you are interested in.

Cheers, Duncan

Thanks Valda

I found, that my National Library of Australia card gave me online access, so was able to see the whole entry. The link you gave I had seen, but is only has one page in it.
Now to see if William senior the corn chandler has left a trail!

London and Middlesex / Merchant Taylor School Register Look up
« on: Thursday 28 April 11 06:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am hoping someone has access to "A register of the scholars admitted into Merchant Taylor's School : from A. D. 1562 to 1874 (Volume 2) ", which commences in 1700 - (Volume 1 is digitised on archive.org.)
I am looking for the details therein of William Watson, born 1715, and admitted around 1727 - 1730. This is the scientist Sir William Watson 1715 -  1787. I am also wondering if his brother John Watson who was about five years younger, was also admitted later.

I am hoping to find out who his father was. Sir William's Biographical entry simply states that his father was "a respectable tradesman in St John-street, Smithfield"

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Chorlton Baptism - Elizabeth Knight*COMPLETED*
« on: Wednesday 24 November 10 23:52 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find a baptism for Elizabeth Knight, who was born, according to censuses,  in Chorlton-cum-Hardy or Sale Moor, Cheshire (close by) around 1803. There is a member submitted IGI Record for Chorlton for Oct 1803, with parents Jonathon Knight and Ann, but it is lacking in any more detail. Any help here would be gratefully appreciated.

Looking at records around this time, I have found the following records:
A marriage for Jonathon Knight and Ann Johnson at the Collegiate Church/Cathedral in Manchester 14 May 1799. Other people connected to this family have married here whislt living in Hulme and nearby.
Baptisms to Jonathon and Ann Knight at the Chorlton Wesleyan Chapel for William, Samuel, Mary and John between 1809 - 1817.
The registers for this chapel only start in 1806, and are on the familysearch pilot website. Does anyone know in which Chorlton this Chapel is; -cum-Hardy or upon-Medlock?

Thanking you

Duncan

Hi casalguidi
Thank you very much for the advice re pilot search. There is a lot more to find, isn't there. Well I did have Amy Thomsett pencilled in, but only as the only Amy born in Folkestone (1851 census) at the right time. This record confirms her id.

I am very impressed that you went back to this old post and updated it!

Thanks

Mark
