Here's the marriage certificate of Anne THOMSON and Henry deKoven RIDER:

https://a860-historicalvitalrecords.nyc.gov/view/7891912

It says Anne would turn 20 on 11 Apr 1888. And Henry would turn 25 on 21 Jun 1888. Sometimes the birth years can be off, however.

Curiously, I recognized the name and signature of one of the witnesses: Edward Kindberg, who was a specialist in prints and engravings and was an employee of the antiquarian bookseller William Evarts Benjamin in the 1890s.
Yes, I have the marriage details of Ann and Henry De Keven Rider and Edward Kindberg who married Ann's sister Isabella Thomson in 1885. She died quite a gruesome death in 1908 and there was a lot of newspaper articles about his will after he died in 1909. That's why i mentioned in my first post that i knew a lot about the rest of the family and was looking for William, Isabella and William Jnr.

You have all been a great help - Thank you. I know it doesn't answer what happened to William and Johanna and if they had any children who survived - ongoing brick wall. I do have some matches on ancestry with the other siblings - but so far no one has replied to my messages.

I think the girls are in an orphanage in 1880. If mother Isabella died the father would have found it very difficult to look after the younger children.
I do agree - but you wonder how long they would be in there? until 16 maybe and then into domestic service. They all seemed to marry and have children and got on quite well. If it's them  ;)

Crayspond- do you know the name of William Thomson's parents?

A William Thompson born Scotland also listed as buried in The Evergreens Cemetery- died 1912 Manhattan-
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/185561041/william-thompson

However, certificate says died Harlem Hospital, N.Y.C. and buried Elizabeth, N.J.-

Nellie (age 9) in 1880 Census- sister Annie (age 11) is previous entry-
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZ6B-9VZ?lang=en (click on image to see both girls)
This is interesting and also sad - Is it an orphanage or workhouse? - it doesn't seem to say. Even though it says parents both born in New York and that is not the case - we don't know who would have placed them there. The fact the names (including a Sarah /Sadie) and ages all fit at the right time People say wrong things on certificates as i know only too well!

Have you found the family in 1861, presumably in Scotland? Any births for the 3 older children ? Wm & Isabella's marriage?
I'm fishing for a record that calls him Robert or William Robert. The son born in Scotland was William Robert and he named at least 2 sons William Robert, so maybe the man who married Isabella was also a Wm Robert.

Just found the marriage 2 Oct 1857 Perth, Perth, Scotland, 3 births, and the 1861 Census. All of them call him simply William. Curses  :)
Isabella was born in Perh and her parents were both born there. They moved to Glasgow in the 1840s Isabella was the oldest child. She met and married William Thomson in 1857 lived shortly in Glasgow before emigrating. William's father was William also but he had a brother Robert b.1839.  Also William and Isabella had a son Robert who died in Scotland before they emigrated. Maybe brother Robert was in the US first and they followed him. I would imagine that's what would happen back then. Thanks for looking for me it's much appreciated.

I wish I could find the images of the deaths at
https://a860-historicalvitalrecords.nyc.gov/
but they are not showing up. Even if I search only for 1877 records in Manhattan, there is nothing, although it looks like there are earlier records than that in the database.
You could request the certificates by number.

oldohiohome - I did look for a declaration for William Jnr but only found the naturalization. Maybe a dispensation was made to people who had no parents and the brother in law stepped in to sponsor him?
William Sen travelled alone before Isabella and the family. I can't be certain on the passenger lists as it's a common name but he is on the 1870 census. The youngest kids must be on a 1880 census somewhere as Sarah would be 8 Ellen 10 Ann 11.
