Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Look up for George Adkins
« on: Saturday 19 June 10 19:35 BST (UK)  »
I now have the death certificate for George ADKINS he was born on 9th November 1897, died on 11th November and was buried 15th November at St John the Baptist, Great Clacton.

I wonder if anyone has any details of his baptism and also of his sister Annie Dorothy who was born on 19th January 1896 at Clacton

Thanks

Linda

Essex / Re: Great Clacton 1871 ,were your family here?

I have just found out (via Rootschat) that my Dad had another brother who died aged 2 days in 1897, that I had never heard of.  His name was George ADKINS.

He was born in Castle Road, Clacton and was buried at St John the Baptist, Great Clacton on 15th November 1897.  I am wondering if he was baptised there before he died and also my Aunt Annie Dorothy ADKINS who was born on January 19th 1896.

I had no idea they had lived in Clacton until I started doing family history, as my dad, who was born in 1904, was born in Finchley.  Luckily his baptism is on Ancestry London Baptisms!

Thankyou so much for that. :)

I have only just discovered 4 days ago that my Dad had another brother, due to the 1911 census saying my grandparents had 4 children and I only knew of 3, Dad, Ashley (junior) who died aged 16 and Annie Dorothy (my Aunt Dolly)  No one ever mentioned a George!  Both my parents are dead now, how I wish I'd started this family tree business when they were alive ::)

Anyway I have sent for his death certificate ( I see they have upped the price to £9.25p on GRO - outragous!)  so I shall see what I can find from that, but as you say it is probably him - hope so at that price!!

Thanks again,

Linda

Can anybody look up the baptism of George ADKINS born Q4 1897 in Tendring area of Essex, probably Clacton to establish if his parents were Ashley and Alice.  He died in the same quarter, so his burial may have been at the same church.

Hi,

I expect she is Elizabeth Ann or somesuch!!  My other Great, grandmother on the Adkins side is Emma Key and her mother is Ann Charlotte and she varies her  names each census!!

Regarding the CDs, if you scroll down to the bottom of the link it says they no longer sell fiches and as I think I said they don't do a CD yet of the areas I want.  I must say ORO are very good, they have loads of CDs, but obviously I don't need them, living so close.  I know Nigel (I expect you know of him, he uses this site a lot) has bought some and he finds them very good.  He is my 4th cousin and we made contact through Genes Reunited :)

Do you by any chance have a fiche of Tendring/Clacton area, because
I enquired on Genes as well yesterday about the Pettits and got a reply from a chap called Ian.  He had no details before Susan and James. I hope you don't mind but I passed on the info you gave me about Susan's baptism and her parents marriage.  He then got back to me and asked about the 4th child in my father's family.  Now  I had no idea there was a 4th child until yesterday :o :o  He thinks it may be a George who was born and died in 1897.  I have no idea why this child was not mentioned.  Maybe there was something wrong with him.  As I said my grandparents were related and Mum's mother was horrified when she found out, she thought we would all be idiots - well nuff said ;D

Sorry to be a pest, I think I may have to have a trip to Chelmsford sometime or go to Kew (never been there, I hear it is an awkward place to find)

Thanks for all your help,

Regards
Linda
