Thank you, Barbara. That is a good suggestion I hadn't thought of.

Unfortunately it's not - she became known as Ann Wemyss Brown Craig - but in that her other names seem to have come out of the blue I wouldn't be too surprised if Johnston isn't correct.

I'll wait to see if anyone comes up with other options then I might order that certificate. It's a little costly when converted to Canadian dollars so I like to hold off as long as possible.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Christian names - again
« on: Monday 20 August 07 00:03 BST (UK)  »
To add to the soup my Dad had his names reversed while in the Army during WWII and my father-in-law was given a completely different set of Christian names. These "new" names became official the rest of their lives.

Wiltshire / BEAVEN/BIFFEN Heytesbury
« on: Sunday 19 August 07 23:51 BST (UK)  »
William Beaven (later known as Biffin) - born about 1792 - married Elizabeth Stokes in 1824 at Heytesbury and had three children, Jane, Charles and George while living at Tytherington, before the family left for Canada in 1830.

William was an agricultural labourer and probably worked on the A'Court properties in the area. I have been unable to find an origin (e.g., baptism) for either William or Elizabeth in the area so I'm thinking they might have moved from another part of Wiltshire or further afield. I haven't located them on the IGI or on any other record. Can someone suggest another path for me to take in tracking them down?

Thanks, Ken

Cavan / Emigration to Canada 1820
« on: Sunday 19 August 07 23:29 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone know if there is a source of information regarding emigration from Cavan to Canada in about 1820? I believe a few brothers (Francis , Bernard, Thomas and perhaps others) - with their families - of my McGuire ancestors left Cavan for Canada along with other families (some of whom may have been related through marriage). These families founded the town of Sainte-Brigitte-d'Iberville (current French name) in the Province of Quebec.

My 3X great grandfather had been married to Mary Farley (or alternate spelling?) who died before the family left Ireland. His brother Bernard was married to Catherine Ryley (I think that's her family name/ spelling??).

Thanks Ken

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Baptism Newcastle - Ann Craig

Ann Craig was born the last quarter of 1840 (per age in 1841 census) but I've been unable to find her in the civil registration. The family lived at All Saints parish, Newcastle and an older sister (Jane Kay Craig) was baptized at Carliol Street Presbyterian in 1836.

I don't know if the parish records are available after 1837 but, if they are, would someone kindly lookup up Ann Craig daughter of Walter Craig and Isabella (nee Frisal). My great grandmother is a very tricky lady to find as, first, her mother died in 1847 and her father remarried with Ann - called Agnes at that time - living with an older sister; then I think Ann later added some middle names to gain some of her Scottish heritage!

Thanks, Ken
