Lancashire / Re: Forrest family at Blackburn
« on: Thursday 11 December 08 13:37 GMT (UK)  »
There seem to be at least two or maybe three  Forrest families in Blackburn/Darwen As they all have similar names throughout the 3 trees that I have seen I suspect that they were all part of the same tree about 1700. Unfortunately I cannot get up to Preston often enough to find out. My GG was Margaret Jane Forrest, one of 7 children born to William Forrest( born 1800). There is another William Forrest born 1802 in Blackburn .

Vickyk found me thanks to Roots Chat. Now perhaps I can deliver the book to the Totally Direct descendant of Charles Matthews. A lot of summer visitors have kept me away from any ancestor hunting for a while, but I am back on the case again now.

Thanks . This site is new to me . I think I will just familiarize myself with the site before I start something new. Pilgrims Progress was so exciting I feel exhausted

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Houghton Ainsworth-death?
« on: Tuesday 31 July 07 16:47 BST (UK)  »
I think I have found at least 4 Houghton Ainsworths

They are all descended from James Ainsworth (b. 1757) who married Sarah Houghton.  They had 7 sons, the 7th was called Houghton (b.1790).

Their 5th son William called his son Houghton (b 1910) , but just to confuse matters, Williams other son (also called William) called his son Houghton (b. circa 1843)

I am gg granddaughter of the first Houghton and at first thought there was only one. I have found chasing Houghtons fasinating so if you have any more info I would love to hear it

What a fabulous story.  When I receive the book I may just go to my local paper. I know a reporter who will think it is Christmas if I hand her this.

Just so happens I have another book belonging to a relative dated the early 18th cent. I have got back my tree to witin 3o years of her , but just cannot bridge the gap.

There is always some puzzle or other to solve, thats what makes genealogy so fascinating. So far nothing has topped the Pilgrims Progress for excitement.

I hope this photo of Charles Matthews himself will compensate you for all your hard work. I cannot believe you pulled it off in just 5 days. What a fantastic team.  My thanks to you all
