Quite a few Starrs from  around Portroe went out to Vermont USA about the same time to work  in the slate quarries. The name is no longer around this part of Vermont but there are quite a few in the parish cemetery

Most Pattons in Tyrone (of the Catholic variety), lived around the Castlederg- Strabane area. As you may know Irish national team soccer goalie, Shay Given is from across the river in Lifford, Donegal.

Hi Gerry, We had a Hayes family in my part of Vermont from the neighboring townland pf Ballywilliam, came out here in the 1850s. A lot more folks came from just west around the parish of Castletownarra slate quarry region. That parish sent many many people to Vermont and Australia.
Regards,
Peter

Quigley or Quinn would have been more usual names in those parts rather than Quinley.

Hi "Neighbor", My people were out of Killoran as well(Minogues).  Left a few years earlier than yours to work the slate quarries of Vermont USA with many others from the Castletownarra parish Many of the Vermont families had cousins in Australia.
Regards,
Peter

I wouldnt be surprised if some of the Fitzpatricks from Castlejohn ended up in Rutland County Vermont Slate quarries mid 1800s. But that is more about a lot of circumstantial evidence as opposed to hard  facts.

Tyrone / Re: McENHIll McIlhill Dolan Patten Devlin Hill

There are various McElhills around Tyrone in the Griffiths.  One shows up with a bunch of Tyrone folks from around Ardstraw parish in Vermont in the 1860s. Later there is a Hill family in the area related to these Ardstraw folks. I wonder if the name was shortend.
By the way when my gr. uncle William Patten was baptized in Ardstraw West circa 1852-4 ,the godparents were Dolans. His parents were John Paten and Margaret Devlin
