Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Re: Jane Jeune, Jersey
« on: Tuesday 13 October 15 16:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Thank you for your message.  Unfortunately I haven't been able to discover any information about Jane Jeune other than her name so can't be sure she is the same person as your Jane.  Associated names are Abercrombie, Moisson, le Sueur and Tagney.  If you come across any of these in your research, I would be really grateful if you would contact me again.  I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. Kind regards.

Lancashire / Liverpudlian nonsense prose
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 15:58 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if there are any Liverpudlians out there who might be able to answer what may seem to be a rather daft question.   I was born in 1942 and as a young child my mother, who was born and bred in Liverpool, taught me two pieces of nonsense prose.   One went as follows:  “Ar rar chicker rar, chicker rar rooney, rooney pooney ping pong piney, arra karra whisker, chinese chunk”.    I remember liking the other one better as it was more challenging but I can’t bring it to mind.  Does anyone remember anything similar from their childhood?  I would be particularly interested to know the origin.

Scotland / Re: What is Minnie short for??
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 15:23 BST (UK)  »
I had a great aunt who was Minnie as a young child, then Mary and Marion as an adult.   I have never been able to find her birth.  There was a Scottish connection so maybe her actual name was something completely different!

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Death record - Edge
« on: Thursday 15 January 09 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace my grandfather's death record without success and am getting very frustrated!   I can't see him in the BMD indexes or Lancashire BMDs.  I never knew him and recollect my mother saying he had died before I was born - 1942.   He was Samuel Edge, b. 21 Sept 1864 in Liverpool.  He was a plumber and sweet-shop owner.   The 1911 census shows him living at 5 Blackbourne Street, Liverpool, but I believe the family moved to Falkener Square.  My grandmother lived just off Princes Avenue but I don't know if my grandfather had died before she moved there.
If anyone has any advice, I would be very grateful.

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Whalley birth - LRO look up
« on: Monday 15 September 08 15:42 BST (UK)  »
I have searched extensively but can find no record for James Whalley's marriage.  I assume that as Christina was registered as Youell, James and Mary didn't get married until after her birth, if at all.   I can't find a birth record for Robert, again after extensive searches.   I found the Army record of Robert's death at Flanders and that again says his place of birth was Accrington.   I think I've exhaused every avenue.    Thanks to everyone for trying to help.

Technical Help / Ancestry.co.uk query
« on: Monday 15 September 08 12:12 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone out there using Ancestry.co.uk who could help me.   If, having decided a 'hint' may not be relevant to a particular person and choosing the 'ignore' option, how do I re-access that hint at a later date?   I really can't work out how to do it and I can't see an answer in the help section.   I'm sure I'm missing something blindingly obvious!   I would be grateful for any help.
