Hey Mandy - I think we may be cousins. My Mum was Eileen O'Callaghan sister to Sean, Mel, Elizabeth Gemma Mai and possibly more I can't think of. Father was Sean? and Mother Jenny/Ginny. I don't really know a whole lot about any of them. I know there was a skeleton in the cupboard alright and for some reason it seems familiar that the eldest Sean, was the son of Jenny's single sister? or at least that's what I remember being told, and he was raised by Jenny as her own. Not much help to you, I am sure. You  were probably named after Auntie Mai's daughter, Mandy! Is your Dad still alive? My Mum died young in the '70s. Anyway that's all I can think of for now. Best wishes. Sandra x

Thanks again for doing that. A thought just occurred to me. I mentioned that Eileen married my Dad, Michael O' Callaghan of the 'Michael O' Callaghan Showband' - well it may not be widely known that he passed away on December 7th last, which may be of interest to people of a certain age who danced to him all over Ireland, England and the States.

Again my thanks,

Sandra

Hi Iseult Music,

I've a large number of online friends in the world of music on MySpace. I have a wide range of musical tastes so feel that some of the people who play the London Irish clubs
as well as people from Co. Cork may be able to assist.

Would you have any objection if I posted a bulletin on MySpace asking for assistance?

Thanks for the response. I would be delighted if you could do that. You never know...

Kind regards,

Sandra

Meath / Bailey's Roadshow Laytown Co. Meath

Can anyone help...
I am trying to track down anyone who knew my Mother in the late forties/early fifties: She was Eileen O' Callaghan from Devinish Road, Kimmage, and she was a dancer in Bailey's Roadshow around that time. She was going out with Michael O' Callaghan, who was a saxophone player in the show also, and they later married. The owner of Bailey's was Gaby Taylor, who had daughters Lucky, Blossom and Gay. I think Blossom married Terry Mayon or Maine and my Dad thinks that Blossom certainly has at least one daughter in Dublin today. Eileen died in 1977, aged 46, and who she was in her young days very much went with her, as she never spoke of it to us. I really want to trace her family now before it is too late - Her Mother, Jenny Burns, was from Lanesborough in Co Longford, and her Father, Sean O' Callaghan, I have no information on whatsoever. So if anyone out there knows something that could at least point me in the right direction, I would be eternally grateful. As an aside to this, my Dad, Michael O' Callaghan is recovering from major surgery in hospital at the moment and any news of the Bailey family would make his day for sure. :)

That's great Karen - good luck with it all and be sure to let me know if you're coming to Sunday's Well - we'll have a coffee in 'Annie's', which is right on the corner of where you're going!

Good Lord Karen I am absolutely fascinated by your conversation with Ceallachain (Irish for Callaghan) I came across this when trying to trace my own family of O' Callaghan. Coincidentally I live in Sunday's Well! Yes Convent place exists, although who now lives at no 5 now I don't know. However, I do have something for you I hope.

There are a set of directories called Guy's Directories , which should contain the information you need. They are available at the Cork City library and the contact name there is Kieran Burke - he knows my husband well so feel free to use his name (Antoin O' Callaghan) to expedite matters, if it helps.
Tel: 00 353 21 4924 900 or e-mail: libraries@corkcity.ie

Alternatively try ringing Sunday's Well Post Office at 00 353 21 430 3854 to enquire about the address. It is actually at the gates of the Good Shepherd Convent that Ceallachain mentioned...how exciting for you!!!

Good luck,

Sandra
