Somerset / Re: Jane CHORLEY of SAMPFORD
« on: Tuesday 22 July 08 17:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi Sand,

She's there  :). Jane baptised 30 Aug 1795 daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Chorley.

Also: Sarah bapt 20 Feb 1791 daugh of Lewis and Elizabeth Chorley and
Lucas bapt 02 May 1803 son of Lucas and Betty Chorley.

And: Lewis Chorley, bachelor, and Elizabeth Hurford/Harford, spinster, both OTP married 31 March 1790 in Sampford Arundel.

Lewis Chorley living in Sampford buried in Sampford A May 31 age 21 and
Betty Chorley abode Wellington was buried in Sampford A 26 May 1843 age 79

I wonder if Lewis Chorley is the son of Moses Chorley whose name seems to come up in my research quite a bit. Moses married a Sarah Fry (of Culmstock) in Sampford A on 03 Aug 1772. I've got Frys in my family in Sampford A but don't know if/where this Sarah Fry fits in.

Hope the above info has helped.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Burial lookup ~ Sampford Arundel 1823

Hi Jayson,

Sorry to get your hopes up but I checked the burials in Sampford Arundel registers tonight and Peter Bayley isn't there  :'(. I checked for a few years before and after 1823 but nothing! It doesn't appear he was buried here.

If there's anything else I can look up for you, just let me know.

I've got the Sampford Arundel parish registers at the local LDS church. If you don't already have this info, I'll check for you next week. Please advise.

P.S. There are a lot of Chorley/Churleys in Sampford Arundel so it's probably the birth place.

Hi Jayson,

I know it's been a while since you posted this but do you still need this information? I can probably do this for you in the next couple of weeks.

Scotland / Scotland Help
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 23:51 BST (UK)  »
Your information is very informative and a great guide! As I am not sure if my ggg grandmother was actually born in Scotland, is there a website that would show her as being listed without my having to purchase credits? Then if her name is listed I would be able to purchase credits to view the info? My ggg grandmother was listed in all the censuses except one as being born in Marylebone. In one census, it says Scotland as her place of birth. We have searched extensively in the Marylebone parish records and there is no trace of her birth (in abt 1805) or anyone who may be related to her. I'm afraid of having to pay the fee for the website then typing in her name and having it come up empty.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Thank you!

Devon / Cemetery near Nicholashayne?
« on: Monday 06 August 07 00:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi! I hope someone is able to help.

One of my ancestors died in Nicholashayne Culmstock in 1846. I'm wondering where then he might be buried? Googling Culmstock cemeteries does not help me as I'm not sure which are the closest to Nicholashayne.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you.

The Common Room / Re: When finding someone seems impossible did you carry on?

Hi there!

I have the same problem with my ggg grandfather, his wife and his sons. Seems the whole family was forgotten on the 1841 Devon census. When the frustration level gets too high, I do what Sylviaann does and concentrate on another branch of the tree for a while.

Having said that, however, I searched for months for an ancestor of mine in the 1891 census on Ancestry. I tried all sorts of spellings etc. I paid for a small subscription on Findmypast and lo and behold there he was! When I went back on Ancestry with this info, the spelling of his last name was so farfetched I would never have guessed it in a million years. You can also narrow your search by entering his occupation on Findmypast. Then if something looks promising, pay for a small subscription.

I will never give up with ggg grandfather though. I do believe his family was missed on the 1841 census though!

Best of luck in your search! :)

Hi Krissy,

You're lucky to have found your relatives! I've tried different spellings of Twose also with no luck.

Any info you find would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help... :)
