Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Hugh Moore
« on: Monday 06 July 09 01:49 BST (UK)  »
If anyone can still help with this, I would appreciate it. I am still looking for the Hugh Moore connection.
Since Ag. labourer is close to farmer, maybe this would be the same person. However, is it possible since he is 71 years old, that Hugh was his grandfather and Henry didn't have a father there at his wedding as a witness. This could be the case since I am having trouble finindg anymore info on Henry(like siblings) since the census started in 1841.
If anyone can help give me more information on Henry....like childhood information(like siblings that may give a mother's name, etc) The only info that I have is that he was from Withypool, he married Elizabeth Fussell on May 9, 1847. They had a son, James (my line). They also had Mary, Caroline, Eliza, John, Elizabeth, and Emily.
I am at the point in my research that I need to start accessing the Parish records but I do not know how parish records work......how do I research them. Since I am in the US, is the Mormon church the best way to access them?

Thanks-
Jennie

My ggrandfather's papers for the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles said that previous military experience included 18months in the 114th? Battalion. The writing on there looks like it could be maybe 117th Battalion. So I am not sure which one he was in before the Canadian Mounted Rifles. There is some other writing on this line but I do not know what it says or means.
Do you know if there are any archives that would list previous military experience. He spent the majority of his career as a Mounted Rifle and died in Oct. 1917 in WWI.

I am preparing a gift for my father and I think he will be surprised to know that he had a previous miltary experience. I know I was.

Any continued help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-
Jennie

Hi-
I have some information about my ggrandfather. It appears that he was in the 114th battalion (? 117th battalion).

I don't know for sure if this is England or a Canadian thing. The years are not clear and he had moved to Canada right after he was married.

Does anyone know anything about the 114th battalion?....how I can get records, what country are they out of, etc.

Thanks-
Jennie

Tati-
I haven't heard from any of the "Devon" people yet. But after what Steve said, together with what you said, he does look like the wrong one. I will follow the lead for the Midsomer Norton Abe. Gould with Sarah Ashman. I will see if I can confirm with a birth cert. Like I have said in other topics.....it helps so much when I understand the geography (thanks Steve) since I am in the U.S.

Thanks for the help-

Tati-
Thanks for the info from 1841 on the Andrew Mitchell's. I will order a birth cert. for Andrew

As far as Abraham.............I know that most paperwork says that he was from Ashwick, Somerset but I was on the GenesReunited site and when I researched Abraham Gould, most results people had were an Abe. Gould from Devon.

Thanks again-
Jennie

Does anyone have access to pre 1837 records for marriages? I was on the LDS family search website and saw that:

For William Mitchell-his baptism date was Nov. 8, 1835. His parents were Andrew and Ann. He apprently has some siblings: Andrew and ? John. The only wedding cert. for an Andrew and Ann was for an Ann Quantrell of Liverpool, Lancashire. This cannot be right as it is so far from Bristol. Also, the 1851 census says that Ann was from Devon. It also doesn't mention the younger Andrew (bap. Apr. 22, 1838) I am trying ti get Ann's maiden name and be able to get Andrew's parent's names.

For Abraham Gould-Is Somerset Ashwick anywhere near Charles, Devon? Could these be the same person?

Thanks for the help-
