Just discovered a relative worked for this company. He is listed on the 1911 census as being an Able Bodied Seaman in the Greenwich Hospital--The Seamans Hospital for Sick Seamen of all nations. This beggers the question of why a seaman, as on the 1901 census he listed, again in hospital ( a different one) as a private in the Dublin Fusiliers!!
After that tome what I wondered, is there somewhere which retains records of men employed by the TLS?

Many thanks. Not to worry. Where she went between 1891 and 1911 will forever be a mystery. Oh, that we could all have the resources of WDYTYA!!

Sorry, but I mis-led you. It was Timothy's son who married Elizabeth. Bernard must come from this marriage as my Grandad, James (1884-1965) had a cousin Bernard who is actually buried near him in Witton Church yard. However,as I said before, there are so many names which appear in every generation!

MY Timothy had a son and Grandson called Edward. Grandson married an Elizabeth and had a son Bernard who dies a year or so again. As you say, Naughtons are still within Northwich and the christian names pop-up within each generation. As a result, heads start spinning and hair gets torn-out trying to discover just who belongs to who! Hope that this has ?helped.

At the time that I am interested, she is still Saunders. She married in 1906 and became Smoker. She was born in Maidstone as were all 10 siblings.

I am trying to find the where abouts of this lady who is my GGAunt. She is on census returns for 1881,91 and 1911 when she is married, but I cannot find her in 1901. I was wondering if she could be overseas as this is the time of the Boer War and she had at least 2 brothers fighting over there. Could she have been a nurse and if so, how could I find this out?

I too think that it's a wonderful idea. I would love to be able to trace my G Grandad's Boer and WW1 medals.

Loved this episode,as it dealt with my two favourite pieces of history  ie  WW1 and the War between the States. Wonder what happened to the Purple Star, and again I wonder if Grandpa Joe actually received his DSO or was he just recommended for it. I must say that the rose looked almost second-hand or was it the only one left in the florists. Apart from all that, it was a relly good programme.
