Armed Forces / Re: Army Records COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 12 February 12 15:29 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Ady.  I know my grandfather was posted somewhere in Europe for a while but not exactly where.  This is the only post that looked like it could be Europe.

Thanks again

Armed Forces / Army Records - COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 12 February 12 14:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I have just received my grandfather's army records from the MOD.  In them there is a list of postings with dates to and from.  There is one posting to NWE which I do not understand.  Can anyone tell me where this might be??  Thanks.

Thanks Gadget I will bear that in mind.  :)   Not sure how far back I want to go though as this is my father's side and I know very little about my grandfather even!   :-[

Thanks everyone.  Greenrig your Welsh is better than mine!  :)

Gadget I will look into the farm area.  I am planning a holiday in the area and would love to find out if the mill is still standing.  One of the neighbours (now I've looked properly) is a farmer of 80 acres!

Saddles, my gt gt Grandfather's name is Thomas Price born 1853 in Ruabon, Denbighshire.  He is at the address I'm trying to read in 1861 living with his parents Charles & Elizabeth.  The reference from the census page is RG9/4261/101/8.  I hope this helps.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Illegible address - please help!

Can anyone help me read this address please?  It is where my gt gt grandfather was listed as living on the 1861 Welsh census.  I figure the second word is mill as he and his family are all listed as millers but would like to try and find the mill.  The parish is listed as Llanfechain, the registration district is Llanfyllin, the sub-registration district is Llansaintfraid and the count is Montgomeryshire.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Re: William Charlton - Sculcoates

Hi Kath & Tati

Thanks to you both for your help.  Still having trouble finding William's father but will try and contact the Ancestry member mentioned earlier to see what info he/she has.

I'm still looking for William on the 1871 census if anyone can help.  The problem is now his address.  My father-in-law says William was involved in a land dispute where William was taken to court but lost.  He decided to take it to the High Court and later won so I am looking into this as well.  It could have something to do with North Gate as on the 1881 census he was living elsewhere.  Would be interested to know his address in 1871.

Kath, with regards Hy Charlton, on the 1881 census there is a Harry Charlton aged 24 living with William who is listed as cousin to him.

Hi Tati

If Harriett was 7 in 1841 then she was 17 in 1851 so this is a definite possibility.  There is a family tree on Ancestry by another member who has William's parents as Harriett Charlton and Thomas Clayton with another son called James Richard Charlton born 1853 (also to Thomas Clayton).  He has Harriett's parents listed as Richard and Martha!!!  This still does not explain what happened to William in 1861/71 though.  Hmmm  ???

The Lighter Side / Re: BBC TV "WDYTYA?" Series 7 Episode #4: David Mitchell

What a wonderful series this has been, I've really enjoyed it!  I think perhaps it may be because the celebrities in this series are of a younger generation than previously.

Thanks Tati.  It does look like that is him as the address is the address (a farm) he gave on his son's birth certificate many years later but living with Grandmother??  I'm guessing mum died in childbirth as the 11 year old daughter who is living in the same household is too young to be his mum I think.  Why do we always get the answer to a question with another question  ???
