Thanks Isobel.

I am having difficulty in finding the 1891 record on a certain site begining with A

I searched for Elizabeth Mellody b. 1841
and Arthur b.1872

Unfortunately the site has removed the Piece Folio Page search option.

I think the transcription may be missing on this site. Can you give me someone else on the same page.

Regards Dave

Yes I saw that one.

I have the Lancashire BMD marriage record for 1870 so James would have been married in 1871

There is something strange in that he doesn't appear with his wife in any census. May be he has a job that keeps him away from home.

I am hoping someone may have the church records for St. Thomas that show the Grooms fathers name or the grooms age.

Looking for a James Mellowdew who married Elizabeth Ann Whittaker in 1870, St. Thomas, Bury

They had children:-

John Daniel Mellowdew b.1870, Bury d.1874, Blackburn
Arthur Mellowdew b. 1872, Bury d.1949, Blackburn
John William b. 1875, Blackburn d.1943, Rochdale

Elizabeth Ann Mellowdew nee Whittaker b. Huncoat about 1850 and was the
illegitimate daughter of Ann Whittaker who married Barraclough Bentley in 1851
She died 1913 in Blackburn

In 1871 and 1881 census
Elizabeth Mellowdew is living with Barraclough Bentley and mother Ann
RG10 3958 133 4 and RG11 4187 37 23

In 1911 Elizabeth Mellowdew is living with her son Arthur
I can't find her in 1891 or 1901

I can't find James Mellowdew in any census so don't know his year or place of birth

Thanks for that Shane.
I have found a map that helped and gave the distance at 56km.
So unlikely to be the same Lavelles.

In Great Harwood, Lancashire England there is a Margaret Lavelle that died in 1915 age 79.

Lavelle is a very unusual name for that area and I am thinking this could be Mary's mother.

I cant find any Margaret Lavelle of the correct age in the 1901 or 1911 England Census.

In the 1911 Ireland census there is a Margaret Lavelle, Widow, age 74 in East Doogort, Slievemore, Mayo.

Would this be near the place above?

Dave

I have a Mary Rutter nee Lavelle born abt. 1857
The 1911 England census gives her birthplace as "Balautuber Ireland"
I have tried Google but it finds nothing.
Any idea where this could be?

Thanks in advance

William Melling was born 1877 in Preston, Lancashire, UK

His wife Agnes Ann Brennand was born 1877 in Preston, Lancashire, UK

They had a child Agnes Millicent Melling born 1910 in the UK.

William does not appear on the 1911 UK census but his wife and child do.

They have the following children born in Canning, Western  Aus.
Winifred 1912, Elizabeth 1913, Thomas 1915 and William 1917.

William must have arrived between 1909 and 1912 and his Wife and Daughter 1911 or 1912

Thanks in advance
Dave
