New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: MILLS Joseph & Martha (nee WILTSHIRE)

Fantastic!! I can now confirm (with the help of those census records - thanks Helen) that Joseph, his wife and first born, emigrated with his siblings and parents also (thanks Lucy2)  :D

And Helen, I have had a look at those glass plate collections and there are a lot of MILLS there! However, no christian names so it makes it hard to correctly identify anyone. I will have a proper look shortly and see if the dates/photos make sense to any of my MILLS.

Thanks again for all your wonderful help.
Best regards

Thanks for taking the time to have a look into my MILLS family for me  :)

However, as they emigrated to NZ I also posted on that board and got some useful census information which seems to tie in with my MILLS:

I'm wondering if Wottmungrege is actually Wotton under edge. If so, this may be your MILLs family in 1851

1851
Civil Parish: Kingswood
County: Gloucestershire
Reg District: Dursley
Sub-reg district: Wotton

MILLS Hannah, Head, Mar., 42, Weaver (woollen cloth), b. Gloucestershire, Anseley
MILLS, Anne, Daur, U, 19, Winder of woollen yarn, b. Gloucestershire, Minchinhampton (?)
MILLS Joseph, Son, U, 16, Cloth cutter (woollen), b, Gloucestershire, Wotton under edge
MILLS Charlotte, Daur, U, 11,[occupation blank], b. Gloucestershire, Kingswood

This might be the same family in 1841:

1841
Civil Parish: Kingswood
County: Wiltshire
Reg District: Dursley
Sub-reg district: Wotton Under Edge

MILLS William, 30 Weaver, N
MILLS Hannah, 30, N
MILLS, John, 11, N
MILLS, Anne, 10, N
MILLS Joseph, 6, N
MILLS Charlotte,1, Y

So, the baptism you found for Joseph MILLS (the son of George & Rebecca) might not be my MILLS?

I am somewhat confused now  ???

I really appreciate your time and wonder if you could look into the possibility of William & Hannah MILLS being Joseph's parents.

TIA

Thank you one and all for your helpful research. It has been great and I have managed to piece together a lot more information that I began with. The Nelson City Council cemetery records were very helpful and also have the passenger list from the Queen of the Avon ship.

If anyone has access to the UK Census records, I would appreciate a quick lookup to see if you can find Joseph or Martha in the 1841/1851 records. I don't know who their parents are. All I know is that Joseph was born 1835 in Wottmungrege, Gloucestershire, England and Martha was born 1837 in Kingswood, Gloucestershire, England.

TIA

Gloucestershire / MILLS Joseph & Martha (nee WILTSHIRE)

Joseph MILLS b 1835 in Wottmungrege, Gloucestershire and Martha WILTSHIRE b 1837 in Kingswood, Gloucestershire. I don't have any details of their parents.

I am looking for emigration records for them. They married in Gloucestershire, England in 1857 and emigrated to NZ not long after. Their first child was born in NZ in 1860. In 1884 they were living in Blenheim and Joseph was a milkman.

Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

I currently use Family Tree Maker (V11 2003) on my old PC. However, I'm about to get a new PC and want to upgrade my software. I don't know whether to buy a current version of FTM and upload all my files (which would be great as I don't want to have to input all my records manually) or do I start again with fresh software that comes highly recommended?

I'd love to read your comments and experiences with both - i.e. updating and bringing across all my data from FTM or should I be looking at new software?

Thanks in advance  :)

Trying to find any information on Bertha Augusta POPPE. She was born on 2 Feb 1849 in Germany and died on 16 July 1922 in New Zealand. Married Arthur Bushby (b1835, d1918).

I don't have any other information on her and am seeking anything about her parents, siblings etc.

Thanks one and all for the information provided to help me in my search. You never know what (or who) may pop up, and I am pleased to say that Thomas' daughter has made contact and we've been swapping notes. I now know that he is from my family tree and I am delighted to have unearthed a living relative that I did not know existed!
