Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Albert Edward Field b 1900 in Gosport
« on: Thursday 04 February 21 01:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have just started revisiting my family tree and would love to find out more about Albert.
He was born in 1900 I believe and was the son of mt GG, Pricilla Williams/ Field then subsequently Brown.

She married Alberts father, also Albert Edward Field, in Portsea, Hampshire, in February 1897.
I cannot find anything about young Albert but he was the step brother of my grandmother, Agnes Brown and I am intrigued to find out what became of him ?

I think they lived at 68 Leesland Rd in 1911 but Albert may have lived in Reading at some point as an adult ?

This is all I know so any further info would be very interesting

Hi All,

I'm struggling to find any information on Edward Ward b. 1881 (Bolton Lancashire).
Edward Ward married Elsie May, who was the daughter of Alice & Henry.

Latest info:
1911 - Lived 16 Liverpool St, Bolton Lancs with Elsie & 3 of their children
1. Lillian Alice
2. Alan Clifford
3. Doris
(My grandad, Lawrence was b. 1911 after the census

If anyone has anything they could share with me I'd be very, very grateful, no matter how small a snippet. Date of death would be a start.

Many Thanks
Tillyboo :)

Hi Nell,

I have one record that may be him, as mentioned in opening post - NCO at the RM Barracks but not 100% sure it's him. Thanks for the link, will check it out.

Bestest Wishes

Hello, I've been out of the Geneology loop for a few months now but I am back on the trail of my mysterious Great Grandfather.

His parents were :
John Ward b.1834-
Isabella Warburton  b.1847-

I am not sure if Harry was his middle name, first name or nickname. He married Elsie May Tilbury in Alvestoke, Nr Gosport, Hants in 1904. I found them on the 1911 Census, living @ 16 Liverpool Street, Bolton. However, they must have moved back down to Gosport at some point in 1911 as my Grandfather, Lawrence Gordon Ward was b 19.07.1911 in Gosport.

OK, I am sort of stuck on two areas:

1. Info around his early 20's. I think he was an NCO at Royal Marine Barracks, Alvestoke BUT not sure this is him.

2.Mystery surrounding his death. I can't find any record. I think he may have died in the 40's or 50's as my dad vaguely remembers him. My grandfather (Lawrence) never really spoke of his father (Edward). We think Edward had a drink problem and may have ended up in an asylum somewhere Nr Gosport/ Alvestoke, committing suicide whilst there.

I have been planning on contacting the Royal Museum museum to see if they can help me. Would I be right in thinking that there may be a closed door policy on ex Marines who died in not so gallant circumstances i.e. an asylum ?

If anyone out there has any information or could help me I'd be very very grateful !

Greenvally - I have not been offended or upset so please don't worry ! It's great to get lots of info and ideas form others on RC  :)

This part of my family is a real mystery, it's driving me bonkers and I'm not sure if it's possible to find out the answers I desperately want i.e. the true identity of the father of Leah's daughter, Sarah (my Grandmother). Also, why Leah came to the UK and why did Alf deny any relationship upon enlisting in the Australian Infantry.

I guess some things are meant to remain a mystery.
