Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Strensham Burial Records
« on: Sunday 11 September 11 10:20 BST (UK)  »
Thanks, but I've looked at death certificates and have been unable to find him (which is making me think he didn't die before she remarried).

I'm after the church's parish burial records.

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Strensham Burial Records
« on: Saturday 10 September 11 22:11 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone is able to help with my search for the death of James Clarke? I believe that Strensham parish burial records may help.

James Clarke was born c1812 in Strensham and is last seen on the 1851 census still living in Strensham with his wife Jane and children. This is the last I've heard of him.

Jane then remarries (still in Strensham) in 1859 and the marriage record states she was a widow.

However, I have been unable to find James Clarke's death certificate. If he died then I assume his death would be between 1851 and 1859 in Strensham. If he isn't recorded as being buried in Strensham, then I have no idea what happened to him.

If anyone is able to search the parish records for me, I would be very grateful.

Thanks for your observations, Jim. The woman I think it could be would just be touching 40 at that time.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / A date for this photo?
« on: Sunday 28 September 08 17:43 BST (UK)  »
We have two copies of the photo below, so I'm assuming it must be either somebody in the family or somebody very close to the family. I have a thought of who it may be, but without a date I can't be all that sure. So I was wondering if somebody here could help? I'd be very grateful!

The photo was taken by John Owen of Newtown, North Wales (well, it says North Wales, but it's actually Mid Wales!).

There is nothing on the back apart from some handwritten numbers which I'm wondering if they could be the date. It looks like 23.2.93.  Do you think it could be the date of the photo?

Also, how old would you say the woman is in the photo?

P.S. - I'm not really looking for any restoration on this photo as I am quite capable myself, however if you would like to "restore" it then don't let me stop you  :)

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Dating a family photo
« on: Sunday 10 February 08 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
I’m trying to date a family photography. Sadly, the photo isn’t in great condition; it’s overexposed and scratched. It’s also warped slightly, so I had to take a photo of it rather than use the scanner. The photo is sepia and is mounted onto thick card. I turned it into greyscale and fiddled about with a few settings to try and get a bit more detail.

Is this a wedding photo? The male members of the family are wearing flowers. Alfred & Mary (the couple sat down) were married on October 1897, so that is certainly the earliest date for the photo. I’m confident that the people standing behind Alfred & Mary are Alfred’s children (Mary was Alfred’s second wife).

Alfred’s children from his first marriage were Margaret (born 1871), Mary (1873), Thomas (1875), Henry (1877), Martha (1882), Francis (1884), Maud (1886), May (1889) and Mabel (1893).

At the time of their marriage Mary had one daugher, Sarah (born 1895).

Once married, Alfred & Mary had 2 more children, John (born 1898) and Muriel (1903).

I am sure the 2 men stood are Henry and Thomas. I don’t think Francis was in the photo as he ended his short life in an asylum. If the photo is Alfred & Mary’s wedding photo then one of the infants would almost certainly have been Mary’s daughter Sarah. Dad thinks the 3rd woman on the left is Alfred’s daughter Mary.

I believe the photo was taken in Alfred & Mary’s garden as we have a couple of other photos situated in the same place.

Montgomeryshire / Re: Richard TROW

Hi Jan,

The info I have for Alice is born 27/02/1847 @ Big Drilth, Churchstoke (though I do have to get the certificate to confirm this).

1871 - Working as a servant (for Thomas Tye) and living at Greendingle, Gwenthrew, Sarn.

1875 - Married Thomas Tye at Newtown.  Father: Richard Trow (deceased) Labourer.  Witnesses were Thomas Trow and Sarah Jenkins.

1881 - Living at Birches, Sarn, Montgomeryshire.

1885 - Died at the Union Workhouse, Llanwnog (which we think is actually Caersws Workhouse).

Thomas Tye was my Great Great Grandfather and Alice Trow was his second wife.  Thomas's eldest daughter (from his first marriage) married John Trow (my Great Grandfather) a year after Thomas & Alice married.  So far I haven't found a link between the 2 Trow families.

Nikki.

Hi Georgina,

It's certainly no problem for me to take a look around Kerry Churchyard for you.  I'll take a walk down there after work one evening this week, depending on the weather.  I'll see what I can find for you.

Take care,

Nikki.

Janmac,

I don't suppose your Richard Trow had a daughter called Alice (born 1847)?

Georgina,

I live in Kerry so I can go down to the graveyard and take a look around the gravestones for you if you'd like (I can do that this week).  I'd offer to do Llandyssil too, but I went there last year looking for Trows and there wasn't a gravestone in sight at the church!  I could possibly do Berriew when I have some spare time, but that would most likely be at a weekend.

Nikki.
