And here is the bad news for me.

From another forum:

Quote
The correct name of the parish that your ancestors came from is Ardstraw, which is the west of Co Tyrone. It is split into Ardstraw East & Ardstraw West.

Unfortunately statutory recording of RC births and marriages did not start in Ireland till 1864 so you won’t get a birth or marriage certificate for this couple from that source. The earliest church records for that parish only date from 1846, which is fairly typical. There are very few RC parishes with records before the 1820s. So I don’t think you’ll find the baptisms and marriage from that source either. Sorry!

That of course confirms the worst fears. Of course making it impossible to go back that extra generation - which is really all I wish to do.  Well two technically.  Contradictory evidence of parents on shipping records and death notices.

G'day Patty

I was just wondering if you got any further along with your research.  I'm particularly interested in if you got any further information about Terrance.

cheers,

Thomas married Mary BEGLEY
Ellen married David EDWARDS
Mary married Alex REGAN
Sarah married William MOLONEY
John married Isabella TAYLOR
Elizabeth/Isabella married James POLLARD
Michael married Mary Margaret LARNACH and Selina NEIL
William married Matilda RYAN

All in Australia

Catherine and Ann died young.
Nothing is known of Owen and Patrick
I suspect Samuel is actually Daniel

I have McSorley/McSourney/McGourney/McGourley as names of interest, all corruptions of McSorley

I'd like to add McSourley and McSolely to that.

Shipping Records indicate: He was 28 yo, RC, from Ardshaw Tyrone, ag lab,
son of Terence & Sarah QUINN ( dead) Catherine was 21 yo, RC from same
place , dau of Thomas & Mary McGOURLEY

Damn it I've been saying Ardstraw when its Ardshaw.

Although this attempt has been unsuccessful as I imagined I would like to thank everyone that perused the topic and showed a little interest.

Thank you.

Tyrone / Quinns from Ardshaw or Ardstraw Tyrone

Hi,

I'm looking for Owen Quin(n) born 1804 who married a Catherine McSorley or McGourley in approximately 1840 in Ireland

Owen's parents were Terence and Sarah, this is often misquoted as Edward Quin and Jane Judge - unless somehow they were known by these names or their middle names.

Catherine is supposedly the daughter  of Thomas & Mary McGOURLEY, have come across several variations of McSorley, McGourley and McGourney in various transcripts

They came to New South Wales, Australia apparently as Bounty Migrants on the ship Cadet in 1841.

I am looking for birth or marriage records of Owen and Catherine and ideally their parents.

Owen and Catherine's children were Thomas, Ellen/Helen, Mary, Sarah, John, Isabella/Elizabeth, Michael, William, Daniel, Catherine, Owen, Patrick and Samuel
