Hi yet again. I am so excited you have contacted me. 8)  I am a bit wary of posting private email addresses on forum sites (to avoid spam emails) - are you on facebook? You can send private messages that way, also upload photos. I tend to keep my potos limited to family on there. It would be good to be able to correspond away from this site long-term. Do you have any other suggestions? By the way, Dorothy and I have exchanged family history information in the past, but we haven't so much lately. She used to write a lot to my parents but they have both gone now ... 10+ years.  Life always seems to be just so busy:(  Please give our love to Dorothy when you see her on Sunday.  :)

Thank you so  much for getting in touch - be nice to keep in touch. :) I am Fred's granddaughter in Australia. I visited Roy and Dorothy and stayed with then in 2000 - beautiful couple. So sorry Roy has gone now. (Also keep in touch with David & Helen.) My aim is to try to track down John & Phillipa's marriage. No luck so far.

Hi All
Been a while since I visited here. Death in family, etc.   :'(
Thanks for your posts.
Sylvia - 1891 census has birth places a bit askew. Charles was born in Swansea (could misread as Sweden?). Fred was also born in Swansea, and Joseph & Richard in Cardiff. Don't know if Pontypridd is near Cardiff? Anyway, have birth certificates and family info that these birth places are correct.
Still no further advanced.  :(

Cornwall / Re: Origins of PENROSE aka PENROS

There is a marriage record on FreeBMD for John PENROSE and Jane MARTIN marrying in the Sep quarter of 1851 Volume 9 Page 341. This is the information you quote to our General Register Office to obtain a marriage certificate. I cannot see a marriage between a John Penrose and anyone called POLGLAZE/POLGLASE. Already have that info. His wife lists herself as a widow in 1871 - did he really die, or did he run away with Philippa?   :o   :o

The only Philippa POLGLAZE I can find married Richard Thomas GILBERT in 1878.

The surname of the Philippa that John PENROSE of Swansea married was PASCOE, and they married in St Austell Sep Quarter Volume 5c Page 182 (Source FreeBMD). What year is this marriage.  ??? My grandfather Frederick George Penrose, John's 2nd son - his birth certificate states mother as Philippa Penrose, formerly Polglase. :)

Thanks for your help - we'll just have to keep looking.  :P

Glamorganshire / Re: Whitchurch burial Cardiff- John PENROSE

The move from Cornwall to Glamorgan would probably have been by sea - there were  established trade links with Cornwall especially to the copper and tin industries in Swansea. So the marriage is probably in Cornwall or Glam.

If I'm following the correct Philippa Polglase, she was with her married sister Elizabeth Roberts in Lancashire in 1871.  ???  First child Charles Edwin was born in June Qtr 1877 in Swansea.
Thanks everyone for your helpful posts.  :)

Glamorganshire / Whitchurch burial Cardiff- John PENROSE
« on: Sunday 29 July 07 15:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello.
My great grandfather John Penrose died and was buried in Cardiff, Wales in the March quarter of 1902 aged 77. He is buried in Cardiff - I think in Whitchurch.  ???
I live in Australia, and I am having great difficulty tracing the correct John Penrose. He was born in Cornwall and married to Philippa Polglase who was also born in Cornwall. They first appear together in 1881 census in Swansea with 2 sons, then in Cardiff in 1891 with 4 sons. Again in 1901 with 2 sons still at home.
Philippa is also buried in Whitchurch, Cardiff - 13 Feb 1924, I believe.
Would the church records show any details of birth dates, parents etc?  ??? If I purchase the death certificates, will they show any of these details? I have spent 10 years tracing probably the wrong John Penrose, and need to start again.  :'( (See Cornwall Rootschat topic - Marriage John PENROSE - Philippa POLGLASE)
If anyone can help me by looking at church burial records, or advising what information is shown on a Welsh death certificate, I would be most grateful.   :)
I am also looking for their marriage. They were not young when they had their first child, so there are a lot of years, and a lot of miles from Cornwall to Wales, to track.  :P
Thank you for any help.  ;D

Thanks, everyone, for all your links and suggestions. I am still working on this  :P - taking lots of time, but not having any luck yet :(  Would a 1902 death certificate have a birth date (ddmmyyyy) on it  ???
Cheers,

Thanks.  ;D
Should re-confirm that the minstrel bit was only a family rumour story - not necessarily true. :-\ Why is it that we don't get intereted in this 'stuff' until those who know the answers have passed on. My grandfather Fred lived with my parents (& me) for several years, but who thinks of these things when you're a teenager?!  :(
