Technical Help / Re: HP Director

This reply is late but thank you, both, for your replies.  I have not looked at the HP Pages yet but hope there will be some kind of positive information especially as the printer copies and prints as before.

Thank you. both, for your replies.  I did look for information after posting on RootsChat and found the same as Christine which confirmed what you had found, Old Hippy.  It is strange that the HP Director worked with IE7 but not with IE8. Maybe I should try IE7 again.

I have Windows XP3

Technical Help / HP Director
« on: Saturday 22 May 10 15:17 BST (UK)  »
Recently I had my hard drive wiped and Windows XP3 restored.  I find that I am now on IE8 instead of 7 as previously.  Could this be responsible for the fact that I can no longer use the HP Director which will  not open.
I use an HPpsc 1355 all- in-one printer, scanner and copier.
Any help would be appreciated

Thank you so much Downside and Old Hippy for your replies.  I thought that I may have done something completely wrong after the computer had been attended to by the repair man and then changing to BT very quickly.
When I reinstalled Adobe it was Adobe 10  which previously I did not have .

It is a relief to know that the blocked windows upgrade is not new and that I will be able  to correct that.

I did ask the repair man why AOL had not appeared in Add/Remove and he stated that it was not of importance  but that AOL would remain in the registry in any case.  I will have to seek help from my neighbour about .

Once again, thank you, both for your help which gives peace of mind.

I have had today's updates instaalled so it is odd that I did not have the other one KB 923789. . Recentley I had my hard drive? wiped clean and Windows reinstalled and also the disc for the AOL broadband which meant reinstalling all of the updates .  The one in question did not install.  However, I have now changed my broadband provider to BT but I do not think that could be a problem.  What has worried me is another issue and that is when the repair man reinstalled AOL using the disc AOL did not appear in the Add and Remove programme so that I could not uninstall that when changing to BT a few days ago.

Thank you for your reply.  I am using Windows SP3.  Will check to see if I have the latest updates to see if Microsoft has blocked these

Technical Help / Windows Update

I have been unable to install the update KB923789. This is for the security issues that have been identified in Macromedia flash player that could compromise a windows based system.

I would be grateful for any help on this issue having just read in a computer magazine that windows could be infected by a rootkit called Alureon which will prevent the installation of some of Microsoft's latest updates.

The update mentioned above was in April and Microsoft tried 9 times to install. There have been no other updates since April.

Thank you

Thank you, too, Downside.  I had to go out yesterday hence the late reply.
