hi, yes it the kneens can be frustrating, they are in the wifes tree, but listed as kerneen in some censuses,

:Dhi, i am also looking into jones,s they also lived on king st, but i think they are a different family, to the one you are researching,,
as for the hotels the names may have changed, but viaduct and the cumberland are now two seperate hotels, the viaduct is actually opposite the viaduct on what is now called falcon st whilst the cumberland is on gladstone

or visa versa as there is but a 100 yards between them

???hi, rootschatters, and todays problem issss,
i have been tracing kneens in my tree,(from the i,o,m also neen,nean)
and i have came across ellen kneen, b iom, aged 68 in the 1881 census
living at derwent st cockermouth, with her g,daughter and gg,son,
surname of bolad ?
i,ve tried bold bolled boled, and got nowt.
any ideas ?

hi, this may be of some help to you, the "gote" is a area of cockermouth, there was a mill at gote, in fact a flax mill, and opposite that was a cattle feed mill, both still remain, the flax mill as a private residence, the feed mill as a haulage yard, there is still a gote brow, although it is in cockermouth i dont know what parish it would come under,(we have had this prob)
try cockermouth, or brigham, or all saints, or bridekirk, may be written as brydekirk, depending on year,

:)hi, well this is how i got the story,and seeing how there is only me and my auntie left i can check out otherwise,
she isnt on the 1901 census because they met when robinson was serving in cork in the malitia, he returned to workington, sometime later josephine turned up at workington requesting that he do the right as she had been sent to look for the father of her forthcoming child, as she is not on the census, but is on the bmd site as married in dec 1902 i can only assume this to be 1902(the sums would suggest no more than 9 months before december,??)
i was told she was in her late teens, also i only have the fact that he was stationed in cork to assume that she was from there, any mention of her birth was always quoted as cork or simply ireland. i know its not much but well ahh you know,

i have a josephine coghlan, or coughlan, may have been born in cork date unknown, met and returned to workington in cumberland, with a robinson jones, b cumb 1878, a member of the malitia stationed in cork,they married in workington dec 1902, they lived in the west cumbria area till death and had daughters may,kathleen,eileen,and clementina,,
