My father was in a Tank, mostly in Egypt, but also Poland / Germany at the end of War. Never ever wanted to talk about it, or celebrate it. Never ever wanted to wear a medal. I can inderstand that.
TY

My Father’s medals are still in their original box and the ribbons have never ever been trimmed or used either.

Hi if you think he was a Church of England Vicar, then he would be listed in Crockfords Clerical Directory. Unfortunately the ones online probably don’t cover the years you might be looking for, so you’d have to find a library that has an edition that covers the years he might have been serving.

There are some entries about him and his ministry in newspapers if you have a sub to either British Newspapers or FindMyPast. One in particular says his middle name was Horatio as Millipede indicated.

My Father was still in Italy in the RAF on VE Day and his diary entry simply said ‘ VE day’ . I saw an RAF chap on the news yesterday and he said he was in Italy too that day and that his CO came along to all the men and said it’s VE Day, go away and come back tomorrow morning 8.30 am. So they got a day off. No idea if my Father did or not as he never said.
Very chilly here so have got the central heating back on.

Durham / Re: Amy (Kershaw) Dawson

If it’s cremation at Durham as it says in that notice, then it would be at Durham Crematorium on South Road. There is a book of Remembrance for there which you can search to see if there is an entry, but you have to pay to have the name put in there so not all names are recorded in there.

Priory cottage is the posh name the coop gives to its funeral premises. The coop are a large provider of funeral services in the uk and many of them have ‘ fancy’ names and there are many of them in the North East and further afield.

For information Dryburn Park House was a Durham County Council older persons home. It was situated not far from University Hospital of North Durham, the old Dryburn Hospital. The site is now houses/flats. I had a distant relation worked there.

I found the Mishal Hussein programme quite interesting, even though my mind was galloping trying to keep up with loads of Indian subcontinent placename changes!

Me too!

Afternoon all
LM. Church politics are always tricky!
Have painted some fencing today and cut some grass. Will do the rest tomorrow. Used to be able to do lots in one go, but now I need to pace myself .

Well done Jeff. The youngsters will benefit from seeing your research.
One of our daughters is a teacher and my contribution for her has been my family tree research from a WW1 relative  who was awarded the MM and the DCM for their school history project.
Plus she uses some of my old toys for ‘ toys from the olden days’. Makes me feel even more ancient!

Did anyone else watch the first episode last night with Andrew Garfield ? I thought it was very interesting and I didn’t know the actor except from the adverts he does on tv!
