As KG asked earlier DanielR , do you have the marriage certificate and the birth certificate or have you not purchased them yet? They will give further information and are essential to any accurate research.

Quite simply we stay inside, curtains drawn, fans on, with cool - but not alcoholic drinks to hand, and do as little as is humanly possible in this sort of weather! Even put an ice cube or two in the cats' water bowls.
TY

We agree TY - inside unless there is shade to sit in. We have been refreshing our viewing of Downton Abbey early episodes. We have the set on dvd so it’s very useful . Tv has been showing the series and I think it’s on to series 5 but we were late to their showings so went back to the beginning. Just what you need for doing ‘as little as possible ‘ as you say.

The Lighter Side / Re: Who Do You Think You Are (UK) - series 22 announced

I’m not usually that keen on Fred Sirieix as he reminds me of the Duracell bunny advert (in the uk we get an advert for a rabbit that is fitted with very long lasting batteries and it’s all a bit hyper). However I found this episode very interesting and poignant in places,  such as when he was in the derelict hospice with the statue in the courtyard.

Not sure if this fits the parameters for this Chat page. I have been doing some clearing and tidying in the study and came across this song from the School Hymnal of the Methodist Church. I can remember singing this in the infants school many years ago. It would be interesting to know if it is still sung, but probably now so far out of date. Perhaps rather too twee for today's children!

Don’t forget the Amen at the end! I remember this song very well . Also Cliff College choruses anyone ? Now Zaccheus was a very little man/ Jesus wants me for a sunbeam/ Only a boy called David etc.

Yes LM, I shall persevere until I find someone who will use the fabrics I won't let them go to waste.

Only recently I was reading how dressmaking was a popular hobby again, so I will see what evening classes there are locally when the autumn prospectus come out.

If you use f*book, there are often free groups where you can give things away in your area. We’ve passed on several items that way which weren’t quite suitable for the charity shops. The folk who’ve come to collect them have been very grateful.

We changed our heating before Christmas, what a mistake,  you cannot buy back boilers now so we had to do something else which means I don't have an immersion heater and the heat from the back boiler went through the middle of the house,  gone, so now the house it cold, never felt so cold in my life before,  costly mistake, we should have explored other avenues

LM

We’ve never had a back boiler so afraid I can’t comment on that, but we have a combi boiler - our second one and combined with that, we replaced the double glazing and had cavity wall insulation fitted. Our gas usage is less than pre the changes and with the windows being A or A+ ones, when the sun shines the heat comes in and stays. Also when the radiators are on, the heat stays in for longer, esp at night we’ve noticed. I presume you’ve done everything you can to insulate your type of house? I resisted cavity wall for years because of the scare stories around, but the firm that did it, did the pre drilling and then showed us the images of our lovely clean cavity with their endo camera before they filled it.

My father was in a Tank, mostly in Egypt, but also Poland / Germany at the end of War. Never ever wanted to talk about it, or celebrate it. Never ever wanted to wear a medal. I can inderstand that.
TY

My Father’s medals are still in their original box and the ribbons have never ever been trimmed or used either.

Hi if you think he was a Church of England Vicar, then he would be listed in Crockfords Clerical Directory. Unfortunately the ones online probably don’t cover the years you might be looking for, so you’d have to find a library that has an edition that covers the years he might have been serving.

There are some entries about him and his ministry in newspapers if you have a sub to either British Newspapers or FindMyPast. One in particular says his middle name was Horatio as Millipede indicated.

My Father was still in Italy in the RAF on VE Day and his diary entry simply said ‘ VE day’ . I saw an RAF chap on the news yesterday and he said he was in Italy too that day and that his CO came along to all the men and said it’s VE Day, go away and come back tomorrow morning 8.30 am. So they got a day off. No idea if my Father did or not as he never said.
Very chilly here so have got the central heating back on.
