Hello Donna

Apologies for not replying to you earlier.  Unfortunately I do not know if there is a link between my Munro/Grants and yours.   The earliest of my Munro's that I have been able to trace is William Munro who was born c1765. Munro was spelt  Monro on his marriage entry which is dated February 1785. He gave his parish of birth as Keith in Banffshire. His wife was Isobel Addison and the place of marriage was Grange, which is near Deskford in Banffshire.  His son Roberts wife Jane Grant who was born c1819 gave various places for her place of birth, including Grantown on Spey.  Her father's name was John.

I am sorry that I cannot be of more help to you.

Regards
Johan

Thank you  very much for your reply.  My Robert's parents were Robert and Jane Grant. Thanks for your offer of census information but I do have a bit of information on them.

Robert and Jane had at least 8 children.  Robert had previously been married to Catherine Thompson in about 1826 and they had 2 daughters Janet born in 1827 and Margaret born in 1832. His father was William Munro a Crofter at Grange near Deskford and his Mother was  Isobel Addison. Although on their wedding entry in gives William's parish as Keith.  Robert died at 5 Low Street, Portsoy and Jane died at 9 Church Street, Portsoy.  Robert the younger married Barbara Wilson in Aberdeen on 3/2/1868.  Her parents were George Wilson and Helen Watson.  Robert and Barbara in the early years of their marriage seem to have moved between Aberdeen and Banffshire. They eventually settled in Aberdeen. They had 9 children.   Did your Isabella stay in Banffshire or did she also settle in Aberdeen.

Thanks Monica. I have looked for a few years for his birth entry.  I didn't think to look under his mother's name. Francis and his wife Isabella Robertson also had a son before they got married.  His name was also Francis George.  Are you related to the Munro's at all.

Hello Monica

Thanks for your reply. I have just checked the census and  Francis was born approx 1868 and living in Portsoy with his mother and sister Mary Ann.  Robert is on another census and is away at sea. His surname is spelt Monro on the 1871 census.

Hello Ian

I seemed to be running out of space with my reply.

Regarding Grace Robertson marrying William Munro.  My ancestor Francis George Munro married Isabella Robertson on 7/12/1888. Isabella lived at 12 Justice Lane, Aberdeen and Francis lived at Albion Street.  I haven't looked into whether Isabella and Grace are related yet.  Isabella's father was George who was born about 1838 in Ayrshire.

Hello Ian

Robert and Barbara's other children were:
Mary Ann born either 1869 or 1871
Francis George b. approx 1870 Known as Frank
Robert b. 1871
William 1873
John 1876
James 1878
Barbara 1882
Johan 1885
Jane 1887
These dates  are approximate

Barbara the elders parents were given as George Wilson and Helen Watson.  Robert and Barbara married in Aberdeen on 3/2/1868.  He was living at 46 Virginia Street and was a merchant seaman aged 22.  Barbara was aged 20 and living at 32 Windy Wynd, Aberdeen.

Roberts father was also named Robert and was born about 1808 in Grange nr Deskford Banffshire.  His father was William a Crofter and his mother was Isobel Addison.

Robert was married twice.  His first wife was Catherine Thompson, they married in 1826 at Fordyce, which also includes Portsoy.  They had at least 2 children Janet born in 1827 and Margaret born in 1832.  Catherine died and Robert married Jane Grant in 1836 at Fordyce. Her father's name was John Grant, possibly from Elgin, Morayshire.

At some stage the family moved to Cullen, Banffshire. Their children were:

Isobel 1837
John 1839
Barbara 1842
Robert 1844
Ann 1847
Mary 1849
Jane Mason 1853

They were all born at Cullen.  The youngest William was born in 1857 at Shorehead, Portsoy.
Robert died aged 78 in 1886 at Low Street Portsoy.  Jane died in 1901 aged 80 at Church Street, Portsoy.

Hello
I have just seen your posting.  I am  related to Robert Munro and Barbara Wilson via their son Francis George Munro born about 1870 in Portsoy. Robert and Barbara had at least 9 children. Robert was born in Cullen, Banffshire.  The family were living at Virginia Street, Aberdeen for a number of years. Robert died in 1916 at Commerce Street, Aberdeen.  His occupation then was given as a night watchman.  Barbara died at the same address in 1927.

I wonder if the Alexander could have been a coal ship.  As Durham was a coal mining area.

I would be interested to know which of Robert and Barbara's children you are descended from.
