Dublin / Dublin City Trials
« on: Monday 26 September 05 11:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi from OZ,

Could or would anyone be able to tell me if there may be a newspaper report on trials held in Dublin City 2nd January 1832.

My 3xgreat grandfather James TIGHE was convicted at that time and sentenced to this wonderful country for seven years.

Thanks

Dear Kate,

I have a 3xgreat grandfather, James TIGHE who was recorded as being born in Dublin 1813 and I was hoping  ;D that there may be a baptismal record for him.

He was tried in Dublin City 2nd January 1832, convicted and sentenced to seven years transportation to Australia, wherelse  ??? He was sent out on the vessel Dunvegan Castle arriving in 1832.

No other Irish info available on the gent. His Australian family consisted 3 boys who were called James, William and Patrick.

Sorry about the vagueness.

Many thanks

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your time and trouble in relation to the SMITH of Frant.

Actually all Richard and Jane's children were baptised in the Pembury Parish Church, Kent, although they lived at Hawkenbury, Frant, Sussex.

Richard's wife jane is believed to have been born at Horsted Keynes, Sussex.

Thanks again.

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Firstly thank you for your time and trouble.

All the SMITHs in Frant are connected.

Although Richard's wifes name was Jane I am having difficulty in confirming her maiden name. It is at this time believed to be WELFARE born in 1785 at Horsted Keynes.

Hoping to check the Newick PRs (film) for Richard's christening.

Cheers

Hi Colonial Boy

Welcome to Rootschat - nice to have you aboard

Just had a quick look at Frant, 1841 - there are some 8 seperate entries for Smith; will have a good look a bit later and post details here for you.

Had a quick look on the 1851 for same, over 90 entries in Frant and surrounding area - do you have any of these that relate to your family.

1851 Horsted Keynes contains some 80 odd entries - do you have those that relate to your family

Richard SMITH aged c.60 @ Hawkenbury, Frant born @ Newick/Barcombe
Jane SMITH (wife) c.54 born @ Horsted Keynes.

There are other SMITHs at Hawkenbury all related to the above.

Kind regards
