The original owner of the watch was my great, great uncle who was pastor in Haydock from 1891 to 1911. He was apparently a great friend of the miners and established the Men's Institute in Haydock. He died in 1925. Do you have a picture of this watch? I would be pleased to discuss. Please contact wellingtonhouse@msn.com.
I wonder if anyone out there could help with the following?
I am doing research on the pit village of Haydock nr, St. Helens and came across the following name.
Revereand D.K. Riddette/s
he was given a gold watch by the miners of Haydock in 1894, was there some connection with the Wood pit explosion some 16yrs before?
thanks Steve.
