Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Looking for HOWBRIDGE
« on: Sunday 23 September 07 10:22 BST (UK)  »

I'm trying to find the bap of JANE HOWBRIDGE born circa 1811 in Hornsea. I have asked the same question on the north riding board so hope I'm ok to ask here!

I'm not quite certain which reg district Hornsea would be in either, or the villages which surround it as her bap could well have been done elsewhere!

Cheers

Hi all

I need a little help looking for a Jane HOWBRIDGE born in Hornsea circa 1811.

She married THOMAS SWIFT in Scarborough in 1833 and died aged 79 in 1891.

I have found Howbridges in Hornsea on the IGI but no Jane, though I'm sure they must be siblings as all the baps I have found have Henry and Ann as parents and Jane named 2 of her children these names. Obviously I cannot assume without further evidence!

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

Could someone please find  HANNAH SHAW on the 41 and 51 census?

She was born in 1840 in Whitby, daughter of JOHN SHAW, a weaver. I think John was born in 1795 in whitby.

Thankyou

John:  Thankyou for the advice! That is a brilliant idea, I didn't even think of that one!! Fingers crossed the records are there and my family are in there! The Swifts were fairly poor so if they did move they would surely have had to have a settlement examination! Thankyou!

Kathc:  The SHAW I have in my tree is HANNAH SHAW born Whitby abt 1840. She married JOSEPH HURD in 1861 in Hartlepool. She was the daughter of JOHN SHAW. a weaver.

I shall have a look through my notes and let you know what other information I have, and hopefully we could find a connection!

Yorkshire (North Riding) / where to go from here??

Hi all

I have my line back to 1739 with the birth of my 6x Gt grandfather THOMAS SWIFT. He was baptised at St Mary's  in Scarborough, the son of Thomas Swift.

I have scoured the registers for links to his father but it seems that the family have come form elsewhere.

The earliest baptisms are my 6x gt grandfather THOMAS in 1739 and a sister, FRANCES in 1741. There seem to be no other baptism for any siblings and none before either. There is no marriage either for their parents in the registers.

I cannot find a burial either for the father, THOMAS. The earliest Swift burial is for an ANN SWIFT in 1760, so im taking this as a possible wife.

I do not know where to go next, any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
