Occupation Interests / Re: Merchant Marine:Castle Rock out of Glasgow.

Hello, my family have a Lloyd's Medal awarded to John Cawse Prout who was captain of the Castle Rock in January 1894, from searching the internet I found this website

From this I have learned that a ship formerly known as the Worrall, sold in 1889, re-registered in Sonderho, Denmark and renamed "Else" sank 600 miles southwest of the Lizard on 17th January 1894 after capsizing in a storm which had raged for several weeks whilst she was on passage from Guayaquil, Ecuador to Hamburg. Her crew were rescued by the Castle Rock of Glasgow and landed at Plymouth on 20th January 1894.

I guess the medal was awarded for this rescue...  Was your relative still on the ship then?

Regards

Steve

Hi,

My dad is the last Yerward from pembroke dock we know of, we've only been able to research back to the 1840's. I can try and email you what I have if you are interested.
