Leicestershire Lookup Requests / 1841 / 1851 census - MILES
« on: Saturday 03 January 09 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there,

I'm trying to locate George Miles in the 1841 and 1851 Leicester/Leicestershire census. Estimated birth year 1784/1786. Any help greatly appreciated - my ancestry subscription ran out a couple of weeks ago and I can't afford to renew it just yet..

Many thanks,

Miriam

Maybe she's holding a photograph? I have a photo of my great-great-grandmothers step-mother dressed very similarly all in black and holding a photo (can just make out the silhouette of a woman) in the same fashion. I have a theory that it is a rememberance or mourning photo, and the photo is of her step-daughter who had died at about the same time.

If Lucy was born in 1827, would they have been married in 1841, would think she was rather young.

Haha, well spotted there! That'll teach me to be so absent-minded.. You're right, they were married in 1845. Which is even better actually, it'd be hugely helpful if I could find them with their parents in 1841..

So, my revised request -
Lucy Young born abt 1826 in Frome. Her parents were Richard and Hannah, but Richard died in 1831. No idea where Hannah was born. Her siblings were as follows - James born abt 1828, George born abt 1824 and Richard born abt 1821. All, as far as I know, in Frome.

John Moon born abt 1810 born Frome (or possibly Baltonsborough), parents James and Mary, possibly both born in Stratton-On-The-Fosse. John had siblings called Martha, Joseph, James, Isaac, David and Mary. I only know when they were baptised, not actual birth dates.

Is the 1841 census for Somerset even available? I've yet to see it anywhere.

And thank you allibaker for all the census info you posted!

Hello all,

I'm trying to locate the following family in 1851 -

George Coles born abt 1805 in Withiel, Somerset
Mary Ann born abt 1805 in Stogumber, Somerset
Maria born abt 1823 in Elworthy, Somerset
Jesse born abt 1828
Sarah born abt 1829
Caroline born abt 1831
George botn abt 1833
Mary born abt 1838
Eliza born abt 1840
Louisa born abt 1842 - All in Washfield, Devon

I'm not exactly sure where they'll be. In 1849 the eldest child, Maria, was married in Dulverton to Walter Greaves (so she won't be on the 1851 with them, that's ok) and in 1861 her parents and some of her siblings were in Bedminster.

I'm also trying to find anything on the birth of Maria Coles as she was born before her parents married. I *think* her mothers maiden name was Thorn(e), although that's definitely not concrete yet.

Any help appreciated, thank you!

Miriam

Hello all,

I'm trying to locate the following in 1841 & 1851 -
George Coles born abt 1805 in Withiel, Somerset
his wife - Mary Ann born abt 1805 in Stogumber, Somerset
children - Maria born abt 1823 and Jessee born abt 1828 in Washfield, Devon.

They had another child in 1842 who was also born in Washfield, so I presume that's where they'll be. Not too sure about 1851.. By 1861 they were in Bedminster, Somerset.

Full details if possible, any help much appreciated!

Thank you

Hi Mariana,
Have you given any thought to removing those glare spots from one of your picx.
See the photo restoration board under Common Room.
Ted

Did you mean me, or Miriam?  ;D

Yeah, I'm not sure! If you mean me, those two big spots on one of my photos are luckily just from my camera flash (I've not got a scanner!).

Anyway, I've got another pic. This one is George Thompson, my first cousin six times removed! Pretty distant... He was a well known slavery abolishionist in the early 19thC.

If you're lucky enough to have even any distant slightly distinguished ancestors, www.npg.org.uk is fantastic for finding portraits.

Mmm... Those cakes look lovely!

Anyway, here's my photos. First one is of my great grandmother Vera Moon, it was taken about 1915. Second is my great great grandfather Henry John Moore and my great grandmother Annie Elizabeth Moore, it was taken about 1900. The third big family one is the entire Moon family in the summer of 1898, Vera (the one in the first photo) is the one on the right sitting on the bench!
