Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / willis lookup 1861 wakefield
« on: Friday 01 April 05 19:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder if anyone with access to the 1861 census can look up Elizabeth Willis aged approx 18, born in Kent. I suspect she was living in Wakefield at this time, possibly the Northgate area. She later married someone from the Kexborough area of Barnsley. It is possible she lived with her father, George Willis or John Willis (not sure!)
Sorry this information is so scanty. Hope someone can help!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / OATES Sheffield 1841/1851 lookup
« on: Tuesday 07 December 04 10:11 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out about a Benjamin Oates (born 1812) married to a Harriet Ogden. They lived in Darnall, Sheffield in 1861 with many of their children, Ben (1847), Easter (1851), Caroline (1855), Arthur (1853), Maria and Charles (1855).
I would like to find out what this family were doing in 1841 or 1861, or even earlier if anyone can discover them in other records.
I'd be very grateful for any help!!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Roper 1871 census lookup Mexborough
« on: Friday 19 November 04 08:53 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out about my ancestor William Roper (born 1838 approx.), married to Louisa Ann Bisby (born 1842 Mexborough) in 1862. I wonder if anyone can find him on the 1871 census, living in the Mexborough area of South Yorkshire and with two children, Eliza (b.1869 Mexborough) and James (b.1866 Mexborough). I am particularly interested in his place of birth.
He could be listed as either a canal boatman or a carter.

Thankyou!

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / veterans burial ground help
« on: Tuesday 09 November 04 16:47 GMT (UK)  »
My great great grandfather was called William Taylor. He was a soldier with the Sherwood Foresters and fought in the Indian Mutiny.
The following article deals with the death of his son, Joseph but it is more or less everything I know about William, apart from the fact that he was still alive in 1912 when he attended a veterans' dinner. I wonder if anyone knows the location of the burial ground referred to. Is it part of the General Cemetery?
I wonder if anyone has any information about the grave or about William himself? I would love to find out about the origins of his father who fought with Wellington but I keep hitting brick walls.
Any help very gratefully received.

I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to look up James and Jemima Winter who were living in Selby in 1840, when their son, George was born. I am interested to know if they had any other children.
I know that in 1838, they were living in Middle Street.

Thankyou.

I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to look up a Benjamin Snowden and wife Alice on any of the 1841/1851 or 1861 census.
I know they had a daughter Emma in 1846 but I am wondering about any other children from the marriage. I believe they were living in Reedness in 1846.

Thankyou!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1841 sheffield oates and ogden marriage
« on: Friday 15 October 04 15:38 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find out about a marriage between a Benjamin Oates (coalminer) and a Harriet Ogden. They lived in Sheffield and had lots of children. These are the children I'm sure about:
Ben b.1847 (Attercliffe)
Esther b.1850
Arthur b.1852/3
Charles b.1853/5
Caroline b.1855/6

I think there were more kids.
The family went to live in Swinton in the 1860s.
Why is is so difficult to find out about Sheffielders?
Any help gratefully received!
