Ireland / Re: Larminie is this an Irish name?
« on: Wednesday 07 November 07 22:19 GMT (UK)  »
Thankyou both for your information and links. The time frame i am looking for would be 1790-1820 i assume, and with the numbers of them they should all be related. Having said that My Walter Larmine Earle (1855-1916) wasn't named after a famous writer so maybe was the cousin of William Larminie (the poet). Maybe a bible or note book or diary will turn up one day and explain the relationship to me.

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Earle/Farrell in Galt in 1851 marriage
« on: Wednesday 07 November 07 22:06 GMT (UK)  »
Just to update,
Still haven't heard from the Cambridge Archives people so may have to try different way.
The only one of my Earle's that (i know for sure) immigrated was Arthur. The others all seem to have stayed in England (apart from business trips to the continent)

Ireland / Larminie is this an Irish name?
« on: Sunday 04 November 07 01:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I am trying to find an origin for the name Larminie.
it was given to one of my ggreatgrandmother's brother's as his 2nd name. He was the 1st born child so am wondering if it was his maternal grandmothers maiden name.
What i have as background is this: Walter Larminie Earle (1855-1916 Aust) Parents Arthur Earle(1824-1906 born Kingston on Hull married Canada died Aust)
Persis Farrell (1826-1904 born Ireland died Aust).
I have not been able to trace Persis at all so am hoping maybe this will be a clue as to her history. (I have found no immigration, census, births, deaths or marriages apart from the 1851 Canadian Census for any of my Farrells) All the info i have is from a birth cert for the youngest Earle child born in Aust and the Galt census kindly found by a rootschat member.
The Earle's are also proving a major headache but that is for a different place.

Try another email account. I wouldn't let me in on mine but my daughter put in her hotmail address and no problems (so far). Worth a try.

Hi Josephine,
I have just email the Cambridge archives to see if they can be of assistance. Looking at the marriages link i have a horrid sinking feeling that my Farrells have left the district. Not one Farrell is listed as a Groom, Bride or Witness in any of those registers. The only evidence i have for their existance is from the 1851 census, then they(as a family) seem to vanish back to the black hole they came from. Ah well other people have brick walls i think mine are more like solid concrete.
Thank you again for the links
Jody
