« on: Friday 31 May 13 01:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi Jackie,
The moderator removed your email addy from your msg reply to me, as is Rootschat policy, but I'm sure I still have your email addy from when I contacted you whilst in England, in 2011! I didn't even realise that it was you when I read the msg on rootschat! So, I will try and contact you again as soon as I can manage some time! Very busy at the moment though, but will try!
Meanwhile, should you wish to email me directly, then my email addy is *

Hi there Jackie,
I am actually related to Catherine Laird. Her brother, George is my great grandfather x 3. I have been in touch with a lady in New Zealand, who is descended from Catherine & John Marquis, so if you'd like to contact me personally, then I can give you her contact details, as I'm sure she'd love to hear from you, if you haven't already made contact by now.
Kind regards,

Antrim / LAIRD, of Ballyclare area
« on: Saturday 06 December 08 08:41 GMT (UK)  »
Is there anyone out there with links to any LAIRD family around the Ballyclare area?

I have collected a fair amount of info on my LAIRD's and also a bit on some other LAIRD lines and would love to discover someone researching their family, which happens to be attached to mine too!

So, I'd love to hear from anyone about their LAIRD's. Please write to me!

Regards, Glynis Halliday

Antrim / Gravestone inscriptions- Carnmoney Parish Church look up please
« on: Sunday 12 October 08 10:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello Lis,
Lucky you getting a copy of that book, Carved in Stone! I have tried for ages to get that!

If you would look up some of my family members who I know are buried there, I'd be very grateful indeed!

My SEATON great grandparents are both buried there, supposedly, as well as some PORTER and McCRACKEN and CORRY & LAIRD relations too!

So, here goes:

William J SEATON, died about 1910, aged abt 45.
Rebecca Jane SEATON, nee Read. Don't know if she died before William (her husband) or not. Rebecca was born 1870.

Joseph PORTER, born c.1863-9. Not sure when he died, but was still alive in 1912. (father was James)
Mary PORTER (nee cFall). Possibly died abt 1900-3, in childbirth. Born abt 1869.

James PORTER (an infant, abt 2-3yrs of age) Poss died about 1924-26. He was the son of Joseph PORTER and Mary Elizabeth SEATON. James or Jimmy was possibly buried with McCracken relations.

Eliza/Elizabeth McCRACKEN (nee Porter). Sister of Joseph Porter above, b.abt 1863-9. (father was James Porter)
Thomas (possibly) McCracken, husband of Eliza. Tom's father was Robert McCracken.

I haven't specified LAIRD or CORRY family members as I'm sure there would be lots of them! Way too much to ask you to look up at this stage!

Well, I'm looking forward to hearing from you and seeing what you find out about Carnmoney!

I'm putting my email address at bottom, for your use, if you'd rather send direct.

Kindest regards, Glynis Halliday, Western Australia

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Belfast 1901 census lookup
« on: Tuesday 18 December 07 07:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Christopher,
I see you offered lookups of 1901 census. Are you still able to do this, as I have at least one that I'd love looked up please? Thanks so much!

The name is William SEATON, b.abt 1870, so s/be abt 30-35 yrs old, possibly a mechanic or gardener, with wife, Rebecca Jane, born abt 1873, so abt 28-30yrs old.

Don't know where they were living or even if they had gotten to Belfast by 1901. I think I have found them on the 1912 Ulster Covenant signatures, but not sure if it's them. The wife, Rebecca is  recorded as Jane only. They were at 28 Cuba Street, Mountpottinger. I'm hoping they were around Belfast in 1901, but otherwise I'm out of luck with them! They were married in Dungannon, Co.Tyrone, in 1893.

Thanks very much for any help you can be.

Glynis, in OZ :)

Australia / VD in the wars
« on: Wednesday 12 December 07 04:02 GMT (UK)  »
You're prob right Sue, I guess that the mother of the soldier, wouldn't have seen the records, which we are now
'privileged' to see these days. And online what's more!

I agree, where was the 'sin' of the man? Doesn't seem right that those women were referred to as 'loose', whereas the men enjoyed taking what was 'rightfully' theirs, but of course often suffered the consequences, with STD's! Mind you, those 'loose' women often didn't have many options open to them, with no other form of financial means at the time. I guess there were always those that did have a choice, but then they made their choice, be it bad or good! :-\

Anyway, enough of that depressing subject!

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Cheers, Glynis
Happy Christmas to all on the site, if I don't get to say that next week! :)

Australia / STD's!
« on: Monday 10 December 07 12:10 GMT (UK)  »
Just looked at the website Belinda! Interesting and informative but gross nevertheless!

I see that these diseases were rife in the armed forces, as you would expect I guess.

Catch you around,
Glynis

Australia / The NAA Website
« on: Monday 10 December 07 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks so much for mentioning the NAA website on this thread! I have just spent the past few hours looking for rellies and have found heaps of info! Awesome!

By the way, I also just found out a rellie (not a grandfather) also contracted VD in Egypt! Must've been quite a pestilence!

I doubt that his mother (a good Christian lady!) would've been impressed with that diagnosis either. Sadly, the man in question actually was killed in action the following year.

Bye for now,
Glynis Halliday, Western Australia
