The record above for Margaret Airdrie and her father Adam Airdrey are my ancestors. I know this thread is a few years old but Shanty, if you're still out there, please get in touch.

Regards.

Helen

Hello Helen and 'yes' I am still around albeit, sparingly.  I haven't done much with the genealogy these last few months due to other priorities however I would be interested to hear about your ancestral searches and will provide to you what I can.  Are you researching the Dunn family name or Airdrie (Airdrey)?

Regards,
Shanty

The Lighter Side / Re: Remember our Canadian Relatives:
« on: Tuesday 18 November 08 00:15 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Kathleen for the link to the video.  It is nice to see our Americans to the south have recognized something of how we show our respect.   The article posted here is a very moving one and I have a similar article I received about 5 years ago also written by a British journalist which was passed my way at work.  I work with the Canadian military and have been unfortunate to know some of the fallen.  Moreover, I know those whose lives are forever changed for having been party to the battles of old and new.  These men and women whether visible to strangers or not, are very different people and not always for the better, after returning from places like Iraq.

As for the quiet Canadians, 'yes' we tend to be a modest people who do not take for granted  what we have in Canada.  It reminds me of Rudyard Kipling's poem "If" (except for the last line).

The Common Room / Searching for Ellen Airdrie
« on: Saturday 20 September 08 03:45 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate a relative by the name of ELLEN AIRDRIE and her descendants.  She would have been born in York (now Toronto) Ontario, Canada around 1915 (+/- 5 years).  Her parents were William Airdrie and Agnes Roger(s).  Agnes was William's first wife.  I have been able to locate Ellen's brother Allan's information but she still eludes me.   I have checked several sources and have located Ellen (Helen) Airdrie's of which there are few, but none were William and Agnes' daughter.  Any help would be appreciated.

Erato,

Do you by chance have "pop-up blocker" turned on?  If pop-up blocker is turned on and the image is not showing at all because Flash Player is too old on your computer, you will not get prompted to upgrade your Flash Player.   Also, if pop-up blocker is turned on and you ARE getting the image to appear, this could explain why you do not get the "save" pop-up window (dialogue box as Suttonrog refers).  If you are using Internet Explorer, pop-up blocker is found under the Tools menu.

Thank you Christopher. You are a wealth of information.  I live in Canada so won't be able to catch the movie at the library. LOL    Do you know where I might get my hands on the movie "Ship of the People"?

My ancestors were from Scotland although my direct line takes me back to Ireland.   I've not been very successful researching the Airdrie (Ardrie) line in Ireland with the exception of references to members having been born in Donaghadee and a hint they may have been Ulster Scots.

I don't know the person's actual name.  Their display name on Rootsweb is AWD7 but their data is a match for what i have.  I believe however, that the "Hans Dixon b: ABT 1855" as you list below is actually the Hans Dixon b: 23 May 1855 and son of Hugh Dixon (Hans' & Elizabeth son).  The Elizabeth Airdire was a misspelling of 'Airdrie' on one of the early Scotland census'.  What I am missing is how Elizabeth Airdrie connects into my Airdrie family line.  I believe her father - Adam - was the brother to my ggggrandfather David.  I am basing this on their ages and birth place.  In addition, the only other place I have found the name Letitia in my family tree was David's daughter.  I thought this might be because of his sister-in-law Letitia McCrae.

Unfortunately, I have no verfication of this but so far my gut feelings (with a bit of logic thrown in) has been panning out pretty good.  My adventure is now in Ireland for records for David, Adam and Thomas all of whom i believe were brothers but Ireland is not easy to research.  This is why I was really hoping you might have had some info on the Airdrie's (also spelled Airdire, Ardrie, Airdrey, Airdire, Airdre, a couple of others) in Ireland.  If you ever come acrosee any, i would love to hear from you on it!

So to answer your question, 'yes' it would appear in a round-about way, we are related.  Fact is, if anyone has an Airdrie in their family line, we are related.  After all, there aren't too many of us.  If you want to see what i've got for names and such, here http://airdriefleming.tribalpages.com/ is a link to my family tree.  I haven't updated it in a while (too darned nice outside!).  The majority of the Airdrie names are verified with copies of the records however, this site doesn't allow for uploading of such things.

Have a great day!

Lexi,

It's been a while since you posted this but i was wondering if you ever found the parents's names for Hans as I retrieved them from an unverified (but reasonable) source to say his parents were Hugh Dixon and Sarah McCrae.  This could possibly make Hans and Elizabeth related through the mothers of each.  Also, there are some Scotland surveys that have 'Dickson' as the last name for a couple of the Dixon family members.

If you have other info than  or alternative to this, I would love to hear it.  I am researching the Airdrie line.

Down / Ulster Scot AIRDRIE family HELP Please
« on: Monday 14 July 08 01:40 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping I can get some leads from those with Co. Down resources.  Records for my Airdrie family in Ireland can found in and around Donaghadee, CO Down.  The majority of the records for the AIRDRIE's indicates only "Ireland"  but the dates they travelled from Scotland to Ireland and back to Scotland tell me they can be added to the list of "Ulster Scot" names although spelt in many forms - Ardrie, Airdre, Airdry, Airdrey, Ardie, etc.  One name which appears to still be prevelent in Ireland is Ardry which I have not completely ruled out as being related but I have only found one instance of this spelling out of several for one of the family members.

There are a few tidbits that I have found in Ireland but it isn't easy.....
If found a grave index at http://www.historyfromheadstones.com/index.php?freesearch.  The Ulster Scot Foundation website is also helpful but it's search is cumbersome and I haven't found much there.  Without paying an arm and a leg or travel from here in Canada to Ireland, I'm stuck!  Please help.
