Down / Re: Advice please
« on: Tuesday 05 May 09 23:49 BST (UK)  »
Thanks both to aghadowey & Rosemary Joan, I have been on Ros Davies site and had seen the bit about Alexander leasing the land but didn't know if it was relevant to me.
Heading in the wrong direction though with Isabellas father,I had found a Isabella Irvine born to William Irvine & Mary Lindsay at Ballymorran but after your replies had another look at Ros's site and saw where Killinchy is compared to Ballywalter so this has saved me a lot of wasted time & effort, off now to investigate a bit further
Thanks again to you both   Susan

Ps why has a lot of counties a place called White Church

« on: Tuesday 05 May 09 02:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,
help please as to where to from here
I have Samuel Hunter b1849 in Down Co. I have now found from the 1911 census b Whitechurch Co Down ( although living in Cumberland & married there) is there anywhere to check a birth record ? Would it name the mother ?
also on his marriage cert. his father is named as Alexander, I found a marriage of an Alexander to  Isabella Irvine in 1845 at Ballywalter is there any way to know if this is relevant to me ?   Susan

« on: Thursday 15 January 09 09:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All   just wondering if anyone had any advice as to why or where to maybe look.

My Grandad served in ww1 I have his pension records regarding 5th Border reg.no 1415 and his medal card from the RFA but that has 2 nos.1175 & 715525 ?I was hoping to find maybe some kind of service record I'm not having much luck with ancestry. Why 2 nos?

also his twin brother William was killed in the war also 5th Border reg no1677 I have found him on the cwgc and know hes buried at Thiepval Memoial  and now have a picture thanks to the War Graves Photographic Project but I cannot find any service records would the fact he was killed have something to do with it ? and sadly another brother was killed Joseph Irving 5th Border reg no 1434 and as with William now have a photo but little else any ideas or information where to go fron here warmly accepted.   Susan

Thanks Trish,DW Jean and Cell for your replies, as usual I'm that keen to get on here and maybe get some answers that I dont always put enough info down.
Its mostly English births I was looking for.I have found the free bmd site very helpfull & where it lists maiden name its a doddle.I have sent for some birth cert. and have been lucky and got the right ones the odd one or two have been no good, theres still some I  haven't tried yet.
Like you Jean on one branch of the tree they also used the maiden name as a second name for the child so that made things easier again.
I have limited info on Irish descendants mostly what I've gained from the english census but thought maybe I could find marriages if I had both names and that may lead to new clues.
I didn't know that the 1911 census was going to hold that kind of info, still the way that this years flying in it won't  be long till its here ;D
