The Common Room / Norton Overseer's Account Books 1766-1807 (Suffolk)
« on: Saturday 15 November 25 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!
This is a long shot but I thought it worth posting.                                                                         Does anyone have access to the Norton Overseer's Account Books 1766-1807?
During the years 1784-1807 there were a number of entries relating to GEORGE PAWSEY:
October 5th 1784       - Paid George Pawsey for his horse for Parfrey's wife - 6/-
October 12th 1784      - Paid Old Pawsey for moveing E Short - 9d
September 20th 1790      - Paid Dr Taylor for George Pawsey - 10/6
November 24th 1801       - Paid Drake for nursing Pawsey in the Small Pox - £1.1.0.
December 22nd 1801    - Paid George Pawsey in illness - 4/-
January 6th 1802      - Paid George Pawsey Snr, in illness - 4/6
and on the same date 2/-
January 16th 1802      - Paid George Pawsey Snr, in illness - 4/6
March 1st 1807  - Paid for journey to Ixworth with the Widow Pawsey and Old Betty Pawsey - 4/-

But I have a feeling I've missed some.                                                                                                      Can anyone check, please, and if needs be give me further details.

Of lesser interest but if anyone's looking at the Norton Overseer's Account Books 1766-1807 (Suffolk), there was also an itemised account for expenses involved in March 1807 for an appeal against the orders of removal of Ann Pawsey and her children from St James Colchester. This details the steps taken to determine the Pawsey's background and refers to interviewing Old Widow Pawsey and going to Coney Weston to search the register for Old Abraham Pawsey's birth.

I will be very grateful if anyone can help.

Can someone please explain how it is that in 1806 John Rushley appears in the Index, yet he did not die until 1807. He died intestate.
Your thoughts would be really appreciated.
Thank you!

The Common Room / SURREY MILITIA from the 16th century
« on: Friday 06 September 24 09:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello!
I realise I probably need to go to the Surrey History Centre, but thought it worth posing the question on here first.
Does anyone have access to any such records?
I'm seeking details for any of the SANDERS, SANDER, SAUNDRE, SAUNDRES family (who lived in Charlwood, and Ewell, and Horley - all near Reigate) who served in a county / local militia.
They were landed gentry, many knighted.
Any details no matter how small, will be much appreciated.

All replies are much appreciated as they help to build up a picture of the family.
I've got in touch with the Surrey library service to find out if they have any books that may help me find out more about Odworth, the manor of Court, the Manor of Lodge etc
There has to be some information out there somewhere!

Thank you for your replies, it was appreciated. The SANDER / SANDERS were a family of status, reflected in the fact that the earlier generations were Yeoman and lived in manor houses (or similarly large) in or around Reigate with names such as 'Court', 'Lodge', 'Stable Farm', 'Collikmoor Farm' etc
Due to their place in Surrey society, I wonder if anyone has already researched them? Or knows of any publications which may help me learn more about their residences.
The internet is sadly devoid of information.
Thank you.

Surrey / SANDERS from Reigate, Burstow and Leigh, Surrey
« on: Monday 26 August 24 14:51 BST (UK)  »
I’m currently researching the SANDERS family from the Reigate area and due to a lack of information on-line, wonder if anyone knows anything about them or has access to records that would help me. Apart from BMD entries in parish entries, I just cannot locate any information about the Sanders family.
I'm particularly keen to learn more about where they lived in terms of locality and size.
Generation 1: John Sanders (d1632) and his wife.                                                                                            1599 and 1612 John was of Odworth, Yeoman.
Generation 2: John Sanders (1612-1644) and his wife Bridget Bancke.                                                    Have no information.
Generation 3: Richard Sanders (1638-1716) and his wife Mary Peeler.                                               Lived in Burstow, but have no specific information.
Generation 4: Richard Sanders (1673-1706) and his wife Elizabeth Lambert.                                        Freeholder and Copyholder in Burstow. Described as a Yeoman.
Generation 5: John Sanders (1705-1736) and his wife Mary Hill.                                                                       1706 described as a Yeoman. 1736 referred to as Captain John Sanders.                                                    Also recorded as a ‘gentleman’ of Woodhatch.
Generation 6: Johnson Sanders (1730-1778) and his wife Martha Charlwood.                                          Recorded as being ‘of Lodge’.  This, I believe, was a manor house but did he occupy it himself? 1775 Freeholder with property in Charlwood .
Generation 7: Thomas Sanders (1763-1840) and his wife Mary Ware.                                              Described as ‘of Court’ but did he occupy what, I believe, was a manor house itself? How large was it and where?
Generation 8: James Anders (1783-1837) and his wife Mary Dungate.                                               1816 Bailiff at Court Lodge. Does this refer to a smaller residence and not the manor house itself?
Generation 9: Richard Sanders (1817-1892) and his wife Mary Ann Knight.                                         1847 Stable House, Dorking. 1871 Collikmoor Farm. 1881 Breakspear Farm, Capel.
Generation 10: Thomas Sanders (1844-?) and his wife Martha Rose.                                                          1871 Upper Meridan, Dorking.

Any information will be really appreciated.

Thank you for your replies, they have given me much to think about. I certainly value your thoughts as, for instance, I hadn't even considered there were two Mary Ware's. I'll see what I can work out and let you know!
Huge thanks.

Hello!
I'm very confused and hope someone can shed some light on this couple marrying seven years before the Marriage Bond and Allegation was issued.
May 1783: Thomas Sanders married Mary Ware who was a minor by licence in Reigate, Surrey.
1783-1789: They had three children.
Dec 1790: Marriage bond and allegation issued for Thomas Sanders and Mary Ware of Rygate (variant for Reigate).
Has anyone come across this before?
I have images of both the marriage certificate and the bond but they're too large to attach here.
Any information / thoughts will be much appreciated.
Thank you.
