I am also researching Frederick Allen and would be very interested in hearing about this man. I have his basic bmd & census details but am intrigued by the comment that he was not a nice man.

Hi,

In 1851 farmer John Taylor & some of his children are listed with an Edwin Coulson, 'nephew'.  In 1861 Edwin is with his parents, William & Eliza(beth) (Creighton) in Glandford Brigg.  Eliza Creighton is the possible daughter of Nathaniel & Sarah Allen, married Yarburgh.  Elizabeth Allen (from Louth?)  is the possible wife of our farmer John Taylor.

Does anybody have any info on these families - I am very keen to verify the wife of John Taylor.

Many thanks in advance.

You might be Ok if you give details of their births etc.  Read the search form & see what it says.

You can access their service records from here:
http://www.army.mod.uk/6980.aspx
and follow the link about documents on the RHS - Army search form.

However if either of them is still alive they have to apply themselves, otherwise you have to fill in the certificate of kinship.  Hopefully you have some details of their service numbers to make it easier. Add a cheque for £30 per search & send it off.  Fingers crossed you will get their entire service history.  I did it for my dad's record - fascinating.

Good luck

Gloucestershire / Re: The Woodhouse, Temple Guiting? COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 19:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I was amazed to find all this about The Woodhouse, having only just come across it in my searching.  My interest is with Richard Deane b1610, who was supposedly christened at The Woodhouse, is it likely that his family owned it then?  How would I find this out? Later he lived at Pinnock, Glos.

Any views/ideas most welcome

Anne

In the 1901 census it appears that Ellen was living on her own at the same address as when she died.
Source Information:
Ancestry.com. 1901 Scotland Census [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2007. Original data: Scotland. 1901 Scotland Census.. Reels 1-446. General Register Office for Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland.

I wonder if you have found out any more about the Allardices in Kirriemuir, my family came from that area but I am only just starting to piece it all together.  there seems to be some variation on the Allardice/Allerdice/Alle/ardyce spelling, I suppose according to the census enumerator!
