Many thanks Forte - I hadn't found them on the 1861 census so that is very helpful.

Many thanks Martin - I wouldn't have known where to start to find that information about Edward and his CG career.  It really adds to the life of a relation.

Thank you David and Suz.  The only information that I know for certain about George is that he was born and baptised at Eton College so the 1851 census with wife and daughter (both with the same name) is spot on for him.  I also have his probate with his daughter Anna Maria as the sole Executor.  I'm not sure where Butterwick Lincs would come into it which is why I'm pinning hopes on witnesses - probably only for my peace of mind!.

Anna Maria is a "married-in" so I don't tend to research their trees - I have enough to struggle with without confusing myself even more with non blood relations! Many thanks though for the baptisms David.  Having just looked at them I think that this George must be my man as their first daughter Frances Isabella is named with his mother and grandmother's names respectively - is that a good indicator?

Suz -  many thanks for the census of Edward - fits well as George was also in the Navy (according to the 1851 census).

Thank you both - I have the IGI record but I suppose I'm being fussy as I can't link it to George (my relation) for certainty without knowing who the witnesses were - I'm hoping that one of them is from his mother's side of the family so that I can say for certain that it is my George and come on from there......

Rutland Lookup Requests / Oakham marriage lookup - Barnard/Bullivant c1804
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 19:05 BST (UK)  »
I would be very greatful if somebody could look up the marriage of George Barnard to Ann(a) Maria Bullivant c1804.  I know that this marriage appears on Ancestry in a couple of trees but with no source citation so I'm not sure how accurate it is.

I am particularly keen to know the names of any witnesses if they are shown.

If possible following on from the marriage are there any children Barnard children baptised in Oakham with George and Anna Maria shown as parents.

This is a new strand to my tree coming down from my 5xGt Gdf but via a daughter and grand-daughter so I'm feeling my way gingerly!

Many thanks in advance for any help that people can provide.

Re my Gt Uncle Daniel - yes 1955 is correct not 1951 I was just excited!  I have a load of gravestones which show Gaileys from the Letterkenny/Killilastin area so I guess some of them will be yours.  If you PM me I can send them to an external email address if you would like.  I think that you have more info than I do but I would be happy to help sort out the families.

I take it that you have the Irish naming conventions for girls and boys - that has really helped me in the past!

I'm not sure whether I fit in here somewhere (probably but where is the $64m question!).  My 2xGt grandmother was Anne Mcelhinney b1834 in Co Donegal probably in the Rossbracken/Leck near Letterkenny.  Her father was James a farmer and they were a presbyterian family.  She married an Andrew Gailey on 17 Jan 1867.  Witness was her brother Robert.

Just found this which was updated today and has Boyle graves which might be of interest to Anne (Portyglir)

Thank you for your post.  I too have Andrew marrying twice.  I also have his first wife's death and his eldest daughter's death.  With his second wife Anne he had 4 children:  Elizabeth, Sarah (my gt grandmother) Daniel and Agnes.  Daniel died in 1951 - unmarried and I believe that Agnes died a few years later also unmarried.  Elizabeth is the only daughter that I am unable to trace.  However given that my Gt grandmother married in Dublin and allegedly met my gt grandfather coming back on a ship from West Africa Elizabeth could have gone anywhere!  I'd be very interested in tracing Elizabeth.

I have got Andrew's father as Daniel and given the Irish naming conventions I think that Andrew's grandfather is probably Andrew - there are quite a few Andrew Gaileys in that area and my gut instinct says that they are 1st cousins but I haven't researched it and I must stress that it is conjecture.

Are you related to the Gailey's?
