Essex Lookup Requests / Springfield, Essex Gaol 1871
« on: Friday 27 July 18 20:22 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestors Thomas Binks who was in the Springfied Gaol, when the 1871 census took place.

He is listed as 31 years old married and born in Halstead, Essex.

Just wondering if there is a way that I can find out as to why he was in the Gaol.....Thank you, James from Canada.

Hi, am looking for members of the Burns family, who were buried at this church during the 1820'2-1830's.  This church was right around the corner from Wilson Street where my Burns family lived around that period of time.  In particular there was a James Burns, who was buried during 1834.
I am really interested in any baptisms that may have occured for the Burns family at this church during the early 1800's.
I have been at a dead end with this family for over 15 years, so any offer to help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you, James and Karen from Canada.

I live in Canada.  Hoping someone is able to trek out to this cemetery to look at 2 headstones.  I have a Charles and Bridget Crowder buried there.  They are husband and wife  He dies 1855 she dies 1858.  Both burials are in section E04.  Bridget's is burial number 022017.  Hoping there is a transcription on Bridget's tombstone.  Hoping to find more information on Bridget.  I believe that she is a native of Ireland.  Thank you for looking, James and Karen from Canada

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / St Olave's Workhouse
« on: Tuesday 07 October 08 12:28 BST (UK)  »
I noticed your post regarding the parish registers website.  I am looking for 3 children that the Stock family registered at Bermondsey Board of Guardian's  St. Olave's workhouse.  They are there in the 1881 census.  Rosetta Stock 6, Caroline Stock 4 and John Stock 2.  The call # or microfilm # is BBG/564001.  Is there any chance that you might be able to look up information on this family?  I live in Canada and would love to have more information.  Rosetta Stock was my wife's Greatgrandmother who lived to the age of 102!  Thank you for taking the time to read this message, James and Karen Galbraith from Canada.

Wow thank you for all of your help, Bryan.  I just viewed your posts today.  Thomas Burns actually married Mary Mitchell after their first child was born.  You have been most helpful with all of your information, Lighthouse.

Thanks for your response, Bryant.  The witnesses to the marriage were Samuel Hudson and M A Stevens.  Not very helpful.  Charles was living at Weavers Arms, Shoreditch with his first wife Sarah in 1841.  I cannot find Bridget Burns in the 1841 census.  She was a spinster when she got married in 1843.  Her father is listed as James Burns a labourer.  However her children with Charles Crowder wind up living with Thomas Burns as nieces and nephew.  Yet on Thomas Burns' marriage his father is listed as Hugh Burns a bricklayer, who doesn't appear to be alive in 1841.  Perhaps the father's name was James Hugh or Hugh James Burns?

Selkirkshire / 1861 census for Galashiels
« on: Monday 29 May 06 23:44 BST (UK)  »
I have an 1861 cenus index for Galashiels which shows a family consisting of John Redger age 56, Helen Redger age 55 and Robina Redger age 19.  The real spelling of their name was Rodger, but it was spelled Redger in 1861.  I would be grateful if anyone would be able to find more information on this family.  Thank you, James from Canada.
