Lanarkshire / Re: rolls royce factory
« on: Friday 06 November 09 00:22 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking forward to checking out the newspaper article too. My mother worked at the Rolls Royce factory during WW II. She told me (and it check;s out) that Gordon Jackson, the actor, worked there too as a draughtsman. She worked at checking the engines with calipers and micrometers to make sure the metal was the correct thickness.

Does anyone have a picture of the factory?

Success! Thanks to a member of the Lanark Rootschat I managed to get the information I wanted from the staff at the East Renfrewshire Council. Here is their address for anyone else that needs help finding relatives in the Cathcart Cemetary:

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you to thank you. Thanks for the suggestions and the info. Yes, I do think an error was probably made when the census takers wrote his name down. I'm following up on an 1881 Census  listing for an Alric Swindale.

Lanarkshire / Cathcart Cemetary, Glasgow
« on: Sunday 08 February 04 07:38 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone out there know anything about the Cathcart Cemetary in Glasgow? I have ancestors buried there and I wondered how to go about finding where the cemetary is and how I could get info. about their graves? :)

If anyone comes across an Ulric Frederick Swindale ( 1855-1907), who was married in London (but don't know his place of birth) please let me know. I've come up empty in the census. It's an unusual name, so I would've thought it wouldn't be a problem.  Anyone have any ideas?

Family History Beginners Board / Naming files in Geneology Programs
« on: Sunday 08 February 04 06:55 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering how other people organised their geneology program files ...  in one big file or do you generally have a separate file for each side of your family. I have done both, but it is getting complicated as I sometimes don't enter all the info. about a particular person in both. Arrrrgh! I suppose I should try to find out if I can merge the smaller file into the big "Mother" file. The big file takes so much time to update now though. Help!  What do you folk do. I'm not new to geneology, but I just didn't start off as organised as I should have.
