Greetings Grunge!

A fine photo you have here.

I can't be too accurate with the date of the photo, but the car looks like a Chevrolet Series 490 - so called because it was originally sold for $490). These were built between 1915 and 1922. A couple of details don't look right for that car though - the front suspension on your car has prominent leaf springs which most images I can find of a Chevrolet 490 don't have, the badge is the wrong shape and there is no badge/mascot/thermometer on the top of the radiator. Pretty much every other detail seems to be right though.

It's possible that it's an older car that has been modified over time, or one that has had customisation work from new.

Does this help?

I make it John Mace for some reason... but then I'm often wrong on these things!

The Fraser & Fraser office looks quite cramped - having a camera crew under your feet probably doesn't make your jobs any easier, I would imagine.

Imagine a camera man accidentally knocking over a box of microfiche! I know from my own research that is something you DO NOT want to do...librarians/archivists tend to get a little miffed at that sort of thing.

Personally I always try and avoid contact with anything around me whilst filming! That often means being equipped with eyes in the back of one's head...

As for the size of the crew, I should imagine that it's possible to film it with a 1 or two person crew (either self shooting "DV director" or camera and director/producer/soundie). Desperately trying to stay out of everyone's way whilst trying to get the good shot!

Exactly that. Of course if you're looking for somewhere out in the sticks you still have to get out there with a camera, but for urban areas it's fantastic

I use it for getting an idea of where to turn corners in unfamiliar places, and also for location hunting. It's very handy especially when combined with Google Earth.

Also it is free. this is a good thing.

The Common Room / Cardiff in the 1920s

Hello

I'm currently working for  a small TV production company in Cardiff. One of our projects is a documentary on our building. For those of you familiar with the city, it's the old National Provincial Bank, on Bute Street, Cardiff Bay.

What I'm looking for at the moment is any photos or film of the building in particular, but also the local surrounding areas too.

I've tried the Glamorgan Record Office [where I found the plans of the building], and Cardiff libary's photo resources don't seem to have anything of the right period.

If anyone has any ideas or contacts of where to find some photos or any information on the area generally, it would be most appreciated if you could post it here, or PM me.

Thanks

Kevin

Particularly when a top grade camera costs £15,000. Not including the lens!

Technical Help / Re: Lost my sound ?

I presume you're running windows?

If so, the sound card settings will be on the control panel...

Start Menu --> Control Panel --> The obvious.

If it's not under there with the sound stuff, it'll be on the hardware page

Start Menu --> control Panel --> Hardware, or system. Haven't used a windows machine for ages, so I'm a bit rusty!

It could be that your sound drivers have gone AWOL [it happens], so you might have to re-install them.
