Cornwall / Unrelated Craze? Driving me Crazy!
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 13:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello all - my name is Kelly and I've taken on the daunting task of tracing my maternal genealogy.  Never thought I'd get stuck so early on though - my great, great grandmother was Sarah J Craze, born 1847, and married a James Humphrey (born 1846) in 1867 in Bridgewater, Somerset County.  That's the earliest record I have of her, and I'm not even 100% sure that that is her!!  They had two children in England, Anna (1868) and Albert (1871) before moving to America between 1871-1872 and having Rose (1872), Harry (1874), William (1877), Alice (~1881), and Myrtle (1883).

I have fairly good records of them once they're over in America, but their early life is a blank!  Family lore says that Sara and James were from opposite sides of the country (Sara in Corwall, James in Dover) and were forbidden by their families to get married (something about Sara came from a wealthy family, while James' were sailors).

Can anyone help?  I don't have an ancestry.com membership (I'll save *that* rant for another time!), and I feel like I've googled myself silly over this.  Does anyone see a Sara J Craze born in 1847????

Thanks so much!

Hello all!  I am researching my maternal ancestry and having a rough time of it so far!  The furthest back I can get is my great, great grandmother Sara J. Humphrey (nee Crase).  I have no records of her last name spelling so far, it's by verbal family lore.  Here is what I do know:
Born 1847, died 1931
Married to James Humphrey
Lived in Corning, NY from *at least* 1881 to her death.
9 children, dont' have the names here with me, but I can post them later.

I suspect she's a transplant from elsewhere, since there is only one Crase buried in Corning NY (in the same cemetary, with is interesting)  CRASE, Francis C   , Born  1891 , Died  1892 .

Does this ring a bell for anyone?  Could I have a look at any Crase genelogies to see if there's a connection?

Thank you all!
