Surrey Lookup Requests / Re: Briveau - A Rotherhithe Family?

I knew nothing about this.  It almost seems that Penelope was a serial widow with all the implications that might have.  I will check the papers and see if they have any information.

Thanks again for your help.  It is very much appreciated.

The dates are right and it certainly isn't a common name.  Francis & Thomas aren't family names.  I wish it was Frederick as that is still in use in the family today.  I think you are right.

Wow!  Thank you so very much.  I have been staring at this brickwall for years.  Could I be really cheeky and ask if there is anything about Thomas?

With many thanks,
Jane

Surrey Lookup Requests / Briveau - A Rotherhithe Family?
« on: Monday 16 May 11 19:42 BST (UK)  »
According to the 1851 census my husband's second great grandfather came from Rotherhithe.  I have been hunting for mention of the family name,  Briveau, for some time.  It is invariably spelled incorrectly. In the 1851 census it is given as Brivean and gives Lewis Briveau's date of birth as about 1800.  If anyone could check this I would be most grateful.  Thank you.

Other Countries / India: Missing burial in India

I am looking for the grave of my great uncle who died in Hyderabad  July 8, 1873.  He wasn't listed as ill or in the infirmary but may have been the victim of an accident.  I was hoping the grave might have some indication.  In his last letter to family in England he is in low spirits and speculates he will never see home again.  I wonder why? His name was John Wilding, he was only 26 and a member of the 66th regiment.

Hi,

I knew about the marriage of Smith and Pardoe but not when or where or if there were children.  I would love to have all the details if you could spare them.

Perhaps I can help you with some info as well?

Jane

Hi, I have the 8 DOBs but am hunting Anne Pardoe at the moment.  We have conflisting stories in our family about her fate.  She either emigrated to the States and died about 1873 or not.  Thus she was either the cause of great grampa going to the States or else he ran away to sea.  In any event he married her sister.  Also have the story that she was engaged to his brother who died young.  Why didn't I ask my Granny questions when I had the chance?  How do you fit into things?

Hi,

Your Henry Hooper Smith who married Elizabeth Pardoe, March 31 1878 is of intererst as Elizabeth is the sister of my great grandmother, Mary Pardoe.  I am also trying to sort out the family tree and would be glad to share what little I have with yo.

Cheers, Jane
