Sorry, no luck with these names. The Day Book begins in 1876 and only has 3 entries for that year. The later Day Book ends at January 1917, so too early for Francis and Elizabeth. Barclay isn't too common a name in Cambusnethan parish, so if you have any more that I can match with another (maiden) surname I'll have a look. Was James married for instance?

Lodger

Thanks Lodger James was married but his wife died in Airdrie and was buried at Wellwynd in 1856.

The family then moved to Greenhill outside Cleland and then spread out a bit Salsburgh, Newains, Cleland etc.

Maybe these will show up in your records

Hugh Barclay b. 13/10/1873 d. 28/12/1887
James Barclay b.1838 d. 19/04/1904
Andrew Barclay b.1849 d. 08/02/1915

Thanks again.

Hi Lodger,

I wonder if you could have a look in the records for the following.

Francis Barclay b.1841 d. 10/11/1917
Elizabeth Barclay nee Johnston or Johnstone b.1845 d.31/10/1925
James Barclay b.1812 d. 06/12/1876

Many thanks.

I know for a fact my great grandmother x 3 is in that graveyard as it's on her death certificate from 1856.

Never been able to find a lair record and i assume she was buried in common ground.

Yes looking at the old maps you can see where the miners cottages were with a water tap in the middle of the rows but today nothing remains of these.

A lot of my family were living in Greenhill for years a loads were there in 1890, keep seeing the same family names living there for years.

Barclay (my family) others that keep showing up on census records are Black and Francis.

Is Greenhill school still there in Hareshaw ? my great great grandfather had his golden wedding there in 1912.

Needed somewhere like that with 10 kids and over 50 grandchildren.

Lanarkshire / Greenhill Village

Hi,

Anyone got any info on Greenhill village which was a mining village just outside Cleland on Greenhill road heading into Hareshaw.

I have seen some stuff on a mining website where it details the conditions of the houses but nothing else.

My family worked in the Howmuir or Howemuir mine in Cleland which was owned by the Auchenlea mining company and was situated i believe across from the Station but does anyone know of a site with anymore info about it ?

Would my relatives who did live in Greenhill  be buried at Kirk o'Shotts ?

Thanks

Hello,

Would you happen to have any information on a Bernard McAdam, d. 1918, in Airdrie?  Any information on members of Lucas and Reilly families (also from Airdrie) would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your help.

Sorry nothing in the records for any of these.
